Ideas for Princess-themed Birthday Party

My daughter is turning 6 next month and wants to have a Princess-themed party. She wants to invite about 8 girls over. We are stumped on ideas for the party. All we have come up with is to dress up like princesses. Any ideas for activities, goody bags, decorations (on a budget)? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Have everyone dress like princesses and then have a craft where they all make either tiaras or princess hats with pretty paper, gems and the tule flowing down the back (super cheap). For the gift bags, the dollar store has princess wands, candy, slippers, jewelry, etc. so you can go nuts. They even have packages of 6 for a dollar - all princess stuff!!! You may even be able to find self sticking gems, paints, etc. at the dollar store too.

Good luck!

one of my birthday when I was a kid, is my mom bought a HUGE sams club cake and then let all us girls decorate it....I think i was 7 or 8 from the pictures. Or if you want, make a bunch of cup cakes and let each kid decorate 1 or 2 cupcakes with princess sparkles on it.
dont forget pink streamers and princess music in the back ground. DEFINALTY make everyone dress up for the party..how cute!!!
Goody bags..not sure..but I googled it and this looked kind of neat..you could order it or find something at your local $1 store

My daughter had a Princess theme for her 5th birthday and we did nail painting aswell , this with a art/craft for when they first arrive , a party game (we did musical chairs) and a pinnata (sp) , then pizza and cake and it was time to wrap it up. For decorations I had a princess table cover and paper plates , we had pink helium filled ballons (1 each for the kids) and cut the strings so they were just out of reach and they make the room look good just floating on the ceiling , then the goody bags were again princess bags , and they had in a beaded necklace , a princess pencil and eraser , a temporary tattoo and a mini chocolate bar.

For my daughter's party my husband made a "castle entrance" that we hung up in front of our door. You could do something like that and take pictures of each girl in front of it. Then you could let them decorate a cheap foam frame to put their princess picture in.

pastel-colored everything! Balloons, streamers, food, drinks. Jewelry spilling over the tabletops....inexpensive tulle/netting also works well for this! In fact, if it's cheap enough, buy yardages of the tulle & let the girls go crazy with dressing up in it!! You will be amazed at what the girls can create with just a few props....& be sure to take lots of photos of their design creations!

If its just princesses in general this could be so easy and fun but if you are looking to do like Disney Princesses then I think you will need to go to a specialty store for party decorations. If its not then you could get cheap costume jewelry from the dollar store and tiaras and feather boas. Use all pink and purple decor, plates, cups, utensils, table clothes. Maybe pick up a kit to make jewelry and have that for all the girls attending to do together or purchase or print off colouring pages with princesses. Get pre packaged hard candy princess cupcake toppers or if you are creative draw on the cake a picture of a tiara and stars and a wand etc and add sparkly sprinkles. Have a disney princess movie playing at the party in the background. OMG this sounds like so much fun

My girls had a princess party one year, and we were on a very tight budget at the time. I made just about everything for the party myself. I bought some pink craft sticks (you can paint them pink yourself) and used clear tape to attach a long pink ribbon to each one, you can use crepe streamers instead. Then when the girls came they each got a "magic wand" and danced around our living room to princess music, I had a CD called Tressa the Magical Princess, but a mix of Disney Princess songs from the movies would work really well. They danced with their wands and with the pink balloons I had blown up. After that we played Pin the Ponytail on the Princess. I made that game with a large buletin board, peach colored paper, colored pencils, and yellow yarn. You need to cut a face shape from the peach paper, trace it first, just try for an oval, narrower at the bottom for the chin and wider at the top. Color in facial features and then tape it to the board. I cut out a fringe of yarn for bangs by wrapping the yarn around a ruler then cutting it off on one side. Attach the bangs with glue, a hot glue gun would be best but Glue-all will work as long as you give it plenty of time to dry. Then create a ponytail of yarn by wrapping the yarn around something like a book then cutting it off and tying it with a hair band. Attach the ponytail to a large push pin or use tape depending on the age of the kids or the amount of supervision available, I used a pin and no one got hurt. You blindfold the girls one by one and they try to pin the ponytail on the princess, it is fun to see where it gets pinned! Another idea would be pin the crown on the princess, that would be even easier, just make a paper or foil crown to pin on. Then we had a treasure hunt, I had decorated an empty shoe box with ribbon, glitter, plastic jewels, etc. and hidden it beforehand. There were clues written on little pieces of paper leading the girls to different places in the house where another clue was waiting for them, the last clue told them where the treasue box was. There was candy and cheap prizes from the dollar store in the treasure box. I gave them each a treat bag to put their loot in and I made sure it was divided evenly. You can also have them decorate their own treat bags before the treasure hunt with paper bags, crayons, stickers, etc. After the treasure hunt we just had cake and ice cream, I made a cake that looked like a castle, there are simple directions online or in magazines like Family Fun. Then gift time and then parents came to pick them up. It was a kind of short party, there are lots of other party games you can play for a longer party, my girls were pretty little at the time and so an hour to an hour and a half was the longest amount of time we could hope for without them getting too tired or over excited and having meltdowns. Good luck, I'm sure your party will be great!

If you want to do a craft, you can go to a craft store and get stuff to make and decorate crowns. My daughter just turned six and the little craft thing was a hit. You could put on music and have a "ball" where they all dance. If you feel like being really brave (haha) you can let them do their own make-up (although they'll end up looking more like clowns than princesses!). But they'll have so much fun.

As for a "princess cake," I don't know if you're the cake-making type, but a castle cake is easy to make. Make two square cakes, one about 4X4 inches and one 8x8. Put the small one on top of the big one and frost. If you then frost 4 ice cream cones (the pointy kind) and put them upside down on the corners of the bottom layer, they look like turrets. Then decorate with icing for doors and windows, etc.

Have a good time!
