Ideas for a Sick Mother's Gift Basket
The mother of a child in my daughter's class was just diagnosed with Guillian - Barre' syndrome. I was thinking of doing a small, we only have 16 kids in the class, gift basket for her. My first thoughts were Sudoku books, cross words puzzle books, travel electronic games, maybe a game she could play with her 5 and 8 year old. She has some mobility but is in a wheel chair and will have many Dr appts.
What would you put the gift basket?

I know you didn't ask this, but from experience, I wanted to suggest that you organize (if you feel comfortable) having moms in the class or the whole school bring meals once, twice a week, etc. You can do this at takethemameal.com. When tragedy strikes cooking and grocery shopping are the last things you want to do. It has been a lifesaver for me!

I would also add music as in ITunes for her phone/computer
Magazine subscriptions
Nice throw blanket for her lap to keep her legs warm
A lap desk item so she has a hard surface to use for writing, etc while in her chair
A journal
You sound very caring. It is nice of you to think of her.

A quick google tells me that she may have weakness in her extremities (hands) so not sure about the puzzle/writing/electronic games....that really depends.
Lotion, tea, coffee, nice cookies, cute travel mug, inspirational book, travel style neck pillow, eye mask for naps/quiet times, sparkling juices......

I would see if she has a kindle or e reader and buy some kind of gift card that would let her download a book for while she waits. Or soothing music that she can download onto her computer or Ipod.

Great ideas. Maybe also a certificate to a restaurant that will deliver dinner?

There is a card game called The Scrambled States of America. My boys are 4 and 7 and love it! I would certainly recommend it. It's educational and so very much fun. Maybe also some nice hand lotion or something yummy. If you are all going in together, it might be nice to get her something she could really use, like a maid for a day. Most maid companies will give a discounted one-day cleaning rate for special circumstances. If she's getting weaker, it might be nice to have someone else do the housework.
