I Want to Take a Vacation by Myself....

So I've been thinking for about a year and a half now how much I would just like to go on a vacation or just an overnight stay at a B&B alone. My husband is constantly going on trips for himself. He likes to hunt and is very involved in Boy Scouts, so he's always got things that remove him from "reality". So I guess I'm just a bit jealous that I don't get that break. Typically even if I go on a trip without my husband, usually to Dallas to see my sister in law, I take our son. I love my husband, but even at home, I'm still the main caretaker even when he's home. This is on top of working 40 hours & community involvement.

So I guess what I'm wanting to know if it wrong to just to get away alone even for just a night to a local hotel to get some uninterrupted quiet time? What I would give to just do something just for myself like take an uninterrupted bubble bath, watch a show without intrruptions, read a book in peace and quiet?

What can I do next?

Goodness no there is nothing wrong with it.

I've been on multiple trips without my family to just enjoy some down time alone. Some have been here in the Dallas area at a nice hotel, others have been at Miami beach!

Enjoy!

Yes, you SHOULD ABSOLUTELY do it! And don't just pick any hotel. Pick one with a spa and do all you treatments you like! You totally deserve it.

My SIL spent the night last year at a 5 star resort alone. She had spa treatments and room service. She loved it. I say to each her own. I would not enjoy an alone trip now as I had so many before I had my son but if you want to I say go for it!

Why not just rent a nice hotel room by yourself? Order room service, get a mani/pedi, etc. Sounds fabulous!

Marriage equality!!!! If he gets X number of night away you get X number of nights away. If he get to go buy a bunch of hunting gear -- you get new shoes and purses for equal amounts of money. If as a couple you can't afford it then he can't buy new toys just for himself. It's your turn.

Hey find a nice placein Amarillo to go and book a weekend for yourself. If that is not far enough away then go to Dallas. Make a list of things you want to do for yourself and do them that weekend. Take that bubble bath with a big glass of wine and music. Then get yourself all prettied up in your favorite jammies and go to bed.

Just think you would have the bed all to yourself and you can roll all over it and not bump into anyone. Ahhh. I'm ready to take that trip myself. What time should I come over to pick you up? You are only two hours away.

Me too!!! After reading your last paragraph it REALLY made me want to do the same thing. I can't afford to do it right now but I would if I could and I'm pretty sure hubby would be fine with it. If you can do it, please do and then let us know how great it was. Do it for you and for all of us that would love to but just can't right now. Also, be sure to order whatever you want from room service and pack your most comfy jammies too!

You should absolutely get away by yourself for much needed R&R! You deserve it!

Every year I go away 2-3 times all by myself or occasionally with a friend on shopping trips. I leave Thursday morning and come back Sunday night refreshed. I love time to myself once in a while!

I used to do exactly that. I'd go just for overnight, or for a weekend on occasion. If the budget and the schedules allowed it, I would make sure all the duckies were in a row at home and then I'd take a break from the family responsibilities. It was very refreshing, and I was also glad to go back home.

My husband happily sends me on my mini-vacation once or twice a year. In fact, I just had one last weekend and it was bliss! You must do it!

I usually leave on a Saturday morning and come back on Sunday evening, but this time he didn't have to work on Monday, so I came back then. He got the kids up and out the door to school on his own. It was amazing!

Things I recommend: Book a NICE hotel. Go to a spa (I selected the 90 min massage). Take yourself out for drinks and/or dinner (no problem if you just sit at a hotel bar). See a movie (esp one you really want to see that no one else does). Read. Shop. Or just do nothing. It will make a world of difference in your attitude.

Plus, your husband gets the reminder of how "fun" it is to take care of the kids. And I would definitely recommend driving at least 2-3 hours away, so that you don't feel compelled to come home to save everyone.

Sadly, I would recommend keeping your solo vacation to yourself. I mistakenly told several friends about my trip and they were all trying to decide who I was sneaking away with. Really? I am very secure in being alone and doing things alone. They really are not.

Enjoy your time!!!! It sounds well deserved!

I usually do two trips a year with girlfriends. We do a beach weekend and a shopping weekend. I never thought about going alone, probably because I am too frugal. I like to split the cost of the hotel rom.

My DD is 13 now but I can remember having VIVID fantasies about having a night away in a hotel room by myself. I'd watch trash TV, read the National Inquirer from cover to cover without guilt and order take out and sleep until 12 the next day. I thought about it all the time. It's just the result of being "on duty" 24/7. I did manage to get away with a girlfriend once a year or so and it was heaven. I have not need for that "alone time" now, but I can so relate.

Talk to your husband and see if you can swing it. Tell him it will be cheaper than therapy later on lol. Enjoy!

When my kids were 6 years and the other one 2 weeks old I joined a bowling league. just to get out of the house by myself for a couple hours a week. the next year baby number 3 came along. the year after that I started going on the state tournament weekend each year. we left on friday nights and came back on sunday afternoon. it was the best 2 days of my year lol. i looked forward to it each and every year. baby number 4 came along about 4 years later and I continued going until he was about 7. then our team disbanded. but I continuted to go away for a weekend with one of the girls each year. we still get together even now. getting away keeps you sane lol. take a good book and some munchies and get a hotel room for the night. or take a girlfriend and go to a really big mall. stay over night you will be happy you did.

Looks like everyone wants you to go on vacation!

Go on one of the discout hotel sites - priceline, orbitz...put in a bid for a 5 star luxury hotel or resort near you. We have bid as low as $50 and got a room at a 5 star hotel in downtown Houston, so you never know what you are going to get. If you get a good deal, enjoy your staycation!
