I Think I Need an Attorney in DuPage County

Can anyone recommend an attorney for the DuPage County area?

Does this sound like I should use an attorney? A few years ago my husband and I had some pretty big financial problems. We were very proactive with all our bills and called every company/credit/bills that we had monthly payments to pay. Every single credit card company worked with us to allow a few months to get a plan worked out so we could continue to pay bills.

One credit card would not work with us at all. We stayed current on all our other bills but fell behind on one credit card and were not able to catch up. We could never pay the late fees and monthly fees on what we were behind on all at once to ever catch up.

Fast forward two years. We have paid ALL our other debts off completely and now this one credit debt has gone into the courts. I have every intention of paying my debt BUT I would like to have the late fees and removed from what I owe. I strongly feel that this company SHOULD have worked with me so this would never have happened. The late fees and interest from this problem adds up to an additional $2500 more than the $4500 balance I owed.

What can I do next?

My name is C. M. from Eckhoff & M., P.C. We are a small law firm in Wheaton which provides legal services to clients in DuPage County and all of the collar counties. We have a sizeable collection practice and although the majority of our work involves representing creditors, I have helped many clients over the years negotiate with credit card companies that have filed suit against them. Please give me a call and I will see if I can provide some assistance to you. ###-###-####. I look forward to working with you.

I agree. I think that you need an attorney to get something like this worked out. Is there any chance that you can pay the balance in full? Some companies will negotiate if you can pay what you owe in full (the $4500)?

I am worried that getting an Attorney might cost you $2500. You might be able to hire an Attorney and pay by the hour. Have him draft a letter to the Credit Card company using whatever lingo. That you were able to pay off the credit card companies that worked with you is in your favor. Do you have documentation that you tried to call and be pro-active with this particular company? Names, dates, etc?

Another idea might be to talk with someone higher up at the company. For instance, I work in the medical field and they have people there to specifically help with certain situations and who have autonomy to make big decisions like this. Talking to someone who has no power is not going to get this done. I know that their are Appeal Boards where you can present your case. If you haven't already done this, you might call the Credit Card company and tell them that you would like to put an Appeal and present your case.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
