Hi Moms. I have 2 1/2 twin boys. Any suggestions for potty training? I am tired of pull ups and diapers. My daughter was potty trained at 2and did it pretty much on her own. I know boys are harder-and I have two. Any suggestions?

Thank you all for the wonderful advice. This morning one of my boys out of the blue asked to wear big boy underwear. I told him that he needed to used the potty like a big boy first. So, he sat, and sat, and sat, and.......nothing. We are working on it! Thanks for the great advice!! I will keep you all posted.
Hi Elle, I won't lie to you I've never had a boy but I was told that if you make a game out of it they will be trained in no time. I read somewhere that you should put a few cheerio's in the potty or toilet and have them aim at them-sounds like fun to me- if you try it let me know if it works.
I would say get rid of the pullups. I think my son would've been done with potty training ALOT sooner had I done the same. One day I just had to let go and go run errands without a pullup on him and be ready to run to the nearest bathroom when needed! Be ready to clean up several accidents at first, but they quickly realize what they need to do once they don't have a "backup"!

I am reading all of the posts because I have twin boys that are 26 months and they were VERY interested around their 2nd b-day, but became very uninterested about 2 weeks later and they were doing SOOOOO well with it. So, now the older insists on a pullup and the younger usually insists on a diaper, but sometimes wears a pullup. Now they are showing interest again and I am at my wits-end! My daughter potty trained herself basically at 18 months, so this is SOOOO crazy and new to me! Can you share what has worked and what hasn't? My sister keeps them during the day for me since both my hubby and I work full time and she is great about being consistent with what I am doing....HELLLLP!

It does vary per child. My first son was fully potty trained and dry at nite by just over 2. But, my younger son was over 3 and it is frustrating, but the best approach is to wait till they're ready. I did not find pullups to be useful at all with either of my boys because they feel like diapers. I found the cotton training pants, when they were ready to be better. And, in the end, if you wait till they're ready, you really only need those for a short time, so don't buy too many.
Daughters are easier. One of my girls ripped off her own diaper and that was it. She was done.
My son wasn't really trained till 3 (after several false starts), so maybe wait a little longer till they're more interested. Boys are slower to mature.
I had my son pick out his own underwear. He REALLY wanted to wear his Superman underwear but we told him he had to go poopy in the potty. He was doing the other without a problem. I wasn't about to deal with poopy underwear. We gave him stickers and skittles when he went potty. I just kept a baggie on the top shelf in the bathroom. It took two weeks for him to be totally trained. We had him call his grandparents when he got to wear his underwear for the first time. With twins you can use peer pressure, too. I use it all the time with my twin girls. I really lay on the praise when one does what I ask and the other usually falls in line. Good luck!
Hi, I used the 3-day potty training guide. It actually took us 4 days of following the guide before I would say he was potty trained. What it mainly did for me was to commit me to actually being consistent and sticking to my guns (I have two older sons who were stubborn about the potty, so I wasn't looking forward to doing the whole process again, so I was putting it off). The guide offers a lot of common sense advice in an organized fashion. You can get it off the internet at 3daypottytraining.com or easypottytraining.com. My son has never had a poopy accident since we've potty trained, and it's the rare occasion when he pees completely in his pants. Sometimes he will start to go, but stops and goes to the potty to finish. Usually, only his underwear are wet a little, not his pants. Hope this helps.

This is asked a lot, I'd refer back to old posts for lots of great ideas too. I potty train lots of kids, esp. those with disabilities and I recommend the Potty Training in a Day book, it is great. It's spanned out (it's not really in a day), but it works!!!
