I Need a Special Baby Shower Gift

My best friend is finally expecting her first child- and I am so excited! We have been friends for over 30 years! I want to get her something special, but I cant decide what? They just moved into their new house 2 days ago so they have not bought anything for the baby. I thought about buying some books to start a library collection for the baby. (Picking out some of my girls favorite books) Maybe a glider? I wanted to do something more than your standard shower gift. There will be alot of people at the shower so I know she will get alot of the basic necessities. Also a friend of mine is taking care of all the embroidery gifts- so he will lots of stuff with his name on it. Any ideas? This should be so easy for me but I just cant decide! Thanks moms
Also- Do you know someone in the ft worth area that makes personalized beaded jewelry. I want to check out the mommy name bracelets.

What can I do next?

If you are crafty at all, start her a scrapbook. Pre-fill out each page and just leave spaces for the pictures. That way all she has to do is pop the pictures in there as he grows. Give her some adhesive squares to put the pictures in. Scrapbooking can be expensive and time consuming, and money and time may not be something she has a lot of in the upcoming months.

Sandra Boynton books are great!! They are hardback, little enough for small hands and just Great books! Both of my kids always goes to those books! Also, maybe think about something for your best friend along with the baby! Good luck

i love the library idea! in addition to that, don't forget to add a small gift for the mommy. maybe a gift card to a bookstore so post birth she can escape for a coffee and magazine break one weekend.

I love your ideas about a book collection and glider. My sister-in-law filled a toy bin with all kinds of books, some I read to my daughter right away and others I still read to her now. My in-laws purchased a big, comfy upholstered rocker they allowed me to pick out. We still use it every night when we read before bed. The best baby gift I received was an Ergo baby carrier – another item I still use 3 years later, although not as often (it’s strength tested to 90 lbs). After trying several less expensive carriers, my mom purchased the Ergo for me when my daughter was 3 months old, and I couldn’t be happier with it. If you choose to purchase a glider or baby carrier, I’d suggest you ask your friend for her input since she’ll spend countless hours using either.

I am so with the post about the scrapbook. Great idea! I like to do diaper cakes stuffed full of onesies and bibs etc, but my favorite is a blanket cake. So cute! (Google towel cake and you can find super easy directions) something else great would be a few maid cleanings for after the baby is born. The library is good too especially if you have everyone attending the shower bring a book. A jogging stroller is always nice becuase its usually secondary in people's thought but we use ours almost more than the regular stroller. One more thought would be a nice craddle/bassenet for the baby to sleep in when in their bedroom. Hope you get some good ideas! Good luck and congrats to her! :)
