My husband will be turning 30 early in March and would like to throw him a surprise party. Never had to plan a party for an adult and not sure what all is to happen or who do u invite? Do u do games, how do you keep it from them finding out what you are doing? He works third shift and that come a proublem because he is home during the day. But i also have my twins Birthday to plan the big 10 party in April. So i can use that for a reason for getting certain things. Any help would be greatfull. Ideas on anything and everything. One more thing. My husband was brought up that you get a birthday every 5 years. Well i am not sure when he had a birthday party last. And i know that turning 30 for some people is a big deal. Hope that all falls together.

What can I do next?

Oh, my gosh! I feel so oooold! When I read that your husband had reached the "top of the hill", I automatically thought he was 50 years old! My husband is turning 50 in April, and we've been making very bad over-the-hill jokes for months. So if 30 is the real top of the hill, we've been careening down the backside of the mountain for 20 years! :)

But seriously... when my hubby turned 30, I had arranged for our friends to meet at a nearby pub. His best friend was in charge of greeting everyone there. Once they were all together, they came to our house and surprised hubby by serenading on the porch. He was truly surprised, because the party came to him.

When he turned 40, I arranged for a party at the Reading Phillies. We saw the game and had an all-you-can-eat buffet before the game out on the outfield deck. Afterwards, we had a cookout our friends' house.

This year we have quite an important birthday week, as hubs turns 50 and our son turns 21 in the same week. I'm sure "the boy" wants to go out with his friends at school. So I doubt we'll celebrate with him. (mommy sniffles) My husband is an avid track and field runner. He's been running since he was a boy and now competes nationally on the masters level. He hasn't missed a Penn Relays since he was about 10 years old. So, the original plan was to have a party at the relays. Well, turns out that I'll be starting an Appalachian Trail hike that week, and so I won't be here for the weekend of the Penn Relays. Hubby said that was ok. Since I'll be slogging a backpack up and down the mountains in Virginia, he says I can go over the hill for him, and we'll celebrate when I get home. :)

Enjoy! You're husband actually has a few more little bumps at the top of that hill before he starts the descent!

Just have to add that he's not at the top of the hill! LOL Once you hit 30, it's not downhill from there. Trust me!

When my husband turned 50 we did something really off the wall..We wanted to make him feel young again so we sent out invitations for his 50th with that crossed out and 05 under it.. we ask all the guests to bring gifts for children and then we donated them to a local childrens hospital in his name..He unwrapped dolls, cars and all different toys it was so much fun watching his reaction..We played kids games and all the adults had a ball.. we gave out prizes that we would have gotten as kids.. On his cake we had a picture of him at 5 and one at 50.. It was really different and everyone had a great time..

The only way I could pull off a surprise one year, was to have everyone meet at someone else's house. I planned it all by email while I was past due to give birth-not knowing if I would be able to go or if I'd be in labor, so everyone was ready for it to be cancelled, which was a good excuse to keep it simple. I had someone bring the cake and someone offer to decorate. I gave birth two days before my husband's birthday, so he was NOT expecting to get a birthday that year! I told his friend to invite him to stop by for a baby gift and to hang out for a minute, and when he asked if he could go, I acted all reluctant but said yes and VOILA! There everyone was. The baby and I even made a cameo. We didn't do any planned games, but you could if you want-depends on the group if they can keep entertained. There are no rules! He will appreciate your thinking of him!!

You can plan behind his back if you have it somewhere else. Some friends of ours have had everyone meet in a similar manner out for dinner or at a bar and the birthday person doesn't know everyone will be there. All you need is for someone to bring a cake. Do what you can manage and save some energy for the twins!

I did a surprise 30th for my hubby and started planning a year in advance. Used Evite for invites (no papertrail) and his college buddies and their families used it as an excuse to have a reunion (the party continued from the rented hall to our apt., out to a local hotel and their dancefloor, then back at our apt. the next day for brunch!). It was a blast and folks still talk about it.

I gave it easy kiddie themes - pirates and monkeys. You would not BELIEVE the monkey gag gifts folks brought and his boss brought a treasure chest pinata! I didn't organize any games - just had great food, great people, 2 toddlers that happily screamed and scrambled as entertainment, and everyone was happy.

I do like the idea of donating the gifts to a charity. We really had too many stuffed monkeys hanging around for too long;)

My husband really surprised me O. year for my birthday by Taking me out to dinner. When we got called to our table, there were about 30 people there already waiting! It would be an easy way to surprise him. He won't think it's too weird if you tell him in advance that on his birthday (or the day of the party) that you and the kids are taking him out to dinner. The real surprise will be that everyone is already there waiting to yell "surprise" when you get to the table! Good luck.

I just had my hubby's 30th last Saturday. He is a fan of country music and line dancing. I rented our church fellowship hall and invited some family and his friends/coworkers/sports buddies to the party. One of our friends taught 4 country line dances and we had a blast! The food was all "country"- pulled pork, baked beans, veggie tray, trail mix, chips and salsa bar, etc. I put small buckets with peanuts on the tables for centerpieces and put some horseshoes on the tables for decorations. I used boots, my dad's animal skins, and cowboy hats too. Each guest got a hat and a bandana (from Oriental Trading) as their favor/gift. We had a card/money cactus for "gifts". As for the surprise, I made him close his eyes so he couldn't see where we were going. I told him I was taking him to a secret, private dinner. He bought it and was surprised. Hope this helps.

I had a surprise 30th for my husband 2 years ago. What i did so that he would not find out was hold it at his good friends house. He thought we were just going over there for the night. That day i made an excuse and went over all day to decorate with some friends. We did an 80's theme (he loves that era) and had everyone dress in theme. It was a lot of fun. I had to have the main dishes ordered and pick them up that day. I knew if i cooked he would catch on. It is so much fun to plan a 30th!! I wish you the best :-)
