Now that winter and cold/flu season is upon us, I am looking to put a humidifier in my daughter's room (she is almost 2). I am confused which would be the best one to buy - cool mist or warm mist? Any suggestions? And what humidity should we keep the room at?
Thanks in advance! :)

What can I do next?

Don't know about brands but DEFINITELY cool mist. Should your little one get croup or have any sinus swelling, a warm mist just makes things swell more & makes it harder to breathe. Cool mist keeps his nose, throat & sinus passages moist, without increasing swelling. And, if you have a child who wakes in the night with a cough & you want to take them into a steamy bathroom, DON'T. If there are any respiratory issues (croup, asthma, etc.) the hot steam aggravates it.

We have 2 Germ Guardian humidifiers and love them! We have a small one in my son's room, and a big one for the rest of the house. The Germ Guardian sanitizes the mist, so it gives you clean moisture and not moldy! The little one costs about $30. We used to buy a new one every year, searching for a solution, but we've had this one for 2 years, and works great!

I ran a cool mist humidifier in my son's room for years (added bonus: white noise!). Now I use it when he's congested.

yup, i do the cool mist humidifier also. and like the other post said - white noise! kind of a gurgling watery noise - sounds nice to sleep to.
i run it every night. seems to help w/coughing & waking himself up from coughing.
the other ones just have too much maintenance, but i've only tried one brand so idk. good luck my dear.

We bought the Reli One ($25 one) Cool Mist from Wal-Mart and love it. We have had it over a year and it is great, we just change the filter when it is starting to look orange/yellow. I preferr cool mist as I have heard to many horror stories about the warm mist ones.

Not sure if you are interested but I've had three sinusitis surgeries and I'm done with central heating all together! lol Too much dry heat being blown around. We started using portable oil radiator heaters. LOVE them. I haven't turned on the central heater in two years. They warm up nice and keep a room nice and comfortable at night. We keep one in each of the bedrooms and move them around during the day as needed. They do not dry out the air and do not run all the time because the oil inside is heated up and so it radiates heats even while it's not working. The thermostat keeps the temp steady. We no longer run a humidifier.
Got ours at our local Lowes and a smaller version for the bathroom from Amazon.
Oh and my vote is for a cool humidifier and not hot ")
