My baby sister graduates this weekend and I want to get her something different than the other 2 sisters received. Her birthday is this week too, but I already have that gift. She wants to go into fashion design and will be living in a dorm.
Any cool ideas you guys have done or heard of. This is my last sibling to graduate.
Thanks everyone for the great ideas. I did a combination of several ideas because her birthday is June 8th. I wanted to give her both gifts while I was visiting.
I got a "her toolkit" for graduation, and I still use it (11 years later). It has about 15 tools, and lots of nails, screws, etc. that come in very handy when in the dorm. Also, in my old dorm, the walls were cinderblock, so regular nails wouldn't work to hang things. Carpet tacks worked great though - can be found at home depot/lowe's.
What about framed pics of her family, or a digital photo frame already uploaded with family and friend pics.
As she has a interest in fashion design what about a small sewing machine with swatches of fabric. This way even if she decides that fashion design is not what she wants she still has the sewing machine to help with things that will need to be mended while away at college..
If she is serious about fasion design, you should get her a simple dress form from Joann's. They are a little on the pricey side...but usually you can find coupons with stores. Hobby Lobby has 40% off that you can download now at http://www.hobbylobby.com/site3/weekly/coupon.cfm and then you can use it at Joann's--they take competitiors or check the Sunday paper for coupons from Joann's or Michael's, etc. They usually have flyers in the Sunday paper if you don't get their mailouts. I know for sure Joann's has the dress forms, not sure about the other stores. You might also be able to get one off Craigs list or Ebay.
I bought 3 sets of shower towels and had them monogrammed for a friend of ours. I was going to get a monogrammed laundry basket, one where you can remove the liner but decided on the towels. Both I thought were good.

I know how proud you must be of your younger sister graduating!!! I was, and am still, the baby of the family, and graduated in 1974 in West Fort Worth. My sister was so proud of me, and made it known.
I was interested in fashion design, photography, modeling and figure skating. In order to make all my interests evolve into one, she gave me as nice of a camera she could afford, and let my over-active imagination do the rest. I took pictures everywhere I went, and learned a lot about not just my interests, but a lot about myself as well. The camera allowed me to expand my knowledge of photography, fashion, interview models, and realize that figure skating was not for me to do, but to photograph and watch! Anyway, it was the best gift ever!
