How to Get of That Belly Fat

So, I had some blood tests taken about 1-2 months ago on my cholesterol, triglycerides, etc. My cholesterol is a little high at 230 and my triglycerides were high at 421, which my doctor just told me to eat a better diet and exercise. I am taking Red Yeast Rice herbs because I was told this will help. I have tried to exercise, but unfortunately I do not have a treadmill and I walk with my daughter by myself. Since we have gotten so much rain lately, I haven't been able to walk.

I work 7am-3:30pm Mon-Fri and by the time I pick up my daughter from the babysitter, come home fix supper, do the dishes and get my daughter a bath, it is 7pm already!!! I have vacation coming up in July and I want to have a good body. After I had my daughter 15 months ago, my body just has not gotten back in the shape it used to be. I have this belly fat right underneath my belly button and I just cannot get rid of it.

I am on a low grade thyroid medicine and my thyroid was just checked 1 month ago and it was fine. I know that if I stop taking my thyroid medicine I would lose the weight, but then I would also hyperventilate like I did before I knew I had a thyroid problem, so I don't want to do that.

Is there an herb out there that helps reduce belly fat and make you look good? I know the best thing to do for your body is diet and exercise, but like most Americans out there I want an easy way to get right of the belly fat. I only want to lose 10 lbs before I start trying for baby #2 just so I look good this summer. If there is no herb, can somebody tell me some exercises I could try at home that may help lose the weight quicker? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Please share the answers you get with me cause i have tried everything!

I have learned that the Triglyerides are a sugar related thing more then fats/oils... eat les sugars (ALL types of sugars) mine went down really fast. The Cholesterol took a bit more. Had to restrict diet to 29g or less of fat per day PLUS took a cholestrol reducing med. from the doc.

Resistant bands helpped when i lost my treadmill. (my son and i bought it together in 2003 when he was preparing to go in the Marines. After all these yrs he decided he wanted it (i have been using it exclusively) so he took it to NC in Feb. I have gained so much weight!!!! and i thouhgt i had really been doing well. I think i have always been eating the same but since iwas walking SOOOoooo much....UGH!)

Good luck

For belly fat, there's only one way, exercises and proper diet. If you're not eating right, exercising doesn't lose any weight. For belly fat, crunches are great and for me, the best. I also am one to constantly have my ab muscles tightened. It's just become habit to me. Most of the day, everyday I have my ab muscles tightened. Tell you what though, I have close to a 6 pack after 2 kids. I don't even do crunches anymore, just tighten those muscles regularly. It's good to do workouts that work on your side abs too. One I like for that is to lay on my back, hands behind my head, but not holding it up, and do one knee to the chest with opposite elbow to the outside of the knee and then switch. When you are bending one knee to the chest, the other one is straight out in the air, parallel to the ceiling. I try to do 30, then just crunch up with feet straight up in the air, then back to alternating knee to elbow. And my favorite, the one for your lower abs, which is where you're asking about. Lay on your back, arms on the floor along your sides and feet together straight up in the air, use your lower abdominal muscles to lift your butt off the floor. It's not a big movement, your feet only move about a foot. I do this one sometimes for 5 minutes, just as long as I feel like it. Those 3 exercises will work all 4 of your abdominal muscles. This is what got me superb abs and now like I said, I just keep'em tight!

Read the Schwarzbein Principle and follow the diet. It can be challenging, but it works. My husband has been doing it since January. He has lost 15 pounds (which he wasn't trying to do) and his cholesterol went from 237 to 188 (that was the desired result). Of course, men lose easier than woman, but this diet does work. I haven't done as well on it because of going to visit family and not sticking to it as strcitly as I should. I did it a few years ago and lost a total of 25 pounds. I kept it off for about a year and a half and have not gained it all back. It is also good for leveling your body sugars out and helping you avoid the afternoon nap attacks. I hope this helps.

Dear Victoria,

This is what I just told Connie. Working out is a good idea but to lose weight you have to change your eating habits. You are carrying the extra weight because your input exceeds your output. Think of it in terms of you are starving to death - that your body is keeping you alive to get you through the famine. It does that by having you eat junk food which packs on the fat.

Think of feeding your body not you face. Your body wants high quality protein in the morning because overnight it used protein to repair cells. Make your first meal the biggest with the best protein - meat, fish, eggs all work. Taper off during the day with lunch being lighter and dinner being still lighter. Eating 6 time a day is better then eating once. You will probably be hungry at night so at 7:00 or 8:00PM have a bowl of fruit and bran cereal.

Get rid of all the junk food (which includes all white food - white bread, cake, sugar, soy, white rice & milk - yes, get rid of dairy - good for calfs but not for people.) Diet stuff makes you fat because it screws up your insulin response - don't touch any of it. Drink lots of pure water (Reverse Osmosis is best.) Eat stuff as close to nature as possible (if the list of ingredients is more then a couple of things don't buy it.) and last you might consider getting a consult with Dr. Merkle to get on a supplement plan to totally balance your diet. He may be able to help you eliminate the thyroid meds. He uses blood work and is very good at helping people get healthier - www.3000health.com / ###-###-####

Victoria,

There is no herb, no shortcut, and no easy way out. You put the weight on a little at a time, and that's how it has to come off. You can get good results from "Walk Away the Pounds." It only takes 20 minutes per day, is not difficult to do, and you pop it into your VCR or DVD player in the comfort of your own home, rain or not. It will help with weight control as well as muscle tone. I started seeing a difference in only two weeks.

Best wishes,
K.

My old time favorite is "8 minute abs" its quick, easy and it works! I have used it for years. I use the original one, I'm not sure if the knock offs are the same routine. But it is nice that it only takes about 10 minutes. Good luck!

It's NOT just about finding time to work out! What's your eating like? You'd be AMAZED at what a change in diet will do. NOT an excuse about getting the right things in with kids. They need to be educated and eat healthy too. KEEP STUFF OUT OF THE HOUSE THAT WILL SABOTAGE you! DO NOT MAKE EXCUSES to have cookies, etc in the house. The kids don't need them either.....only on special occasions.

There are TONS of things you can do thru out the day to get some "exercise" in - minutes at a time...1-2 mintues of jump roping or going up & down stairs.....1 minute of jack squats, 2 minutes of jumping jacks, 1-2 minutes of lunges - front, back or both and/or side.

Why not work at things from the inside out? You will FEEL AND LOOK SO much better AND be healthier for that next baby. Is it worth it to you both? Not the best idea to look for a quick fix. How about lifestyle change? What happens when you go off what ever you start taking? It's best to make PERMANENT changes and eat what you want on OCCASION.

I'm a personal trainer and nutritional consultant. WHERE do you live? I would be MORE than happy to sit down w/ you and give you a guideline and options based on your schedule and time. I'm in Fishers, IN

Hi Victoria,

I agree with much of what the other Moms have said here.

I find it is much easier to lose weight if I cut way back on dairy, wheat and sugar, and processed foods in general. I am not nearly so hungry. I got the idea to do this from another Mom on this site (Susie) and she got it from her doctor.

Walking is very good exercise. Could you walk indoors at a mall in bad weather? or just walk in the rain, and go immediately into bath/shower upon your return home? One of our shopping centers is not a mall but does have a covered walkway--you could at least stay mostly dry in someplace like that.

Good luck!

You mentioned that you are on thyroid medicine, but you didn't say if it was for an underactive or overactive thyroid. If you have an underactive thyroid, and your medicine is trying to increase the thyroid's activity, if you go off that medication you will almost certainly GAIN weight, because an underactive thyroid translates to a slower metabolism (easier to gain weight). I don't know about meds for an overactive thyroid, have never heard of any.
