I want to give my 20 month old daughter peanut butter on crackers. Is this ok? we have no family history of peanut allergies, and my husband gave her a bite one time with no side affects. Do you think it is ok?

What can I do next?

This is kinda funny that you ask. I'm a mom of 4 and have ALWAYS given my kids peanut butter at 1. It wasn't until my 3 year old was 14 months and I heard you're not supposed to until 2! It's a nut allergy that they're worried about - but you won't find out until you give it to them - whether it's at a year or 5 years!!

I say let her have it and watch her the first time for any signs of allergy. If there isn't any - add it to her menu!

I heard 1 year... but then always ask your doctor, they should have the latest.

And I just wanted to clarify...

Peanuts are not a NUT. They are a legume. You can have a peanut allergy and not be allergic to tree nuts. And vice versa.

I'm allergic to tree nuts, some more than others, like pecans are VERY bad for me. But I am not allergic to peanuts.

Interestingly, I read a report that says peanut allergy is almost non-existent in Thailand where they use peanuts in almost everything. Weird huh?

My doctor advises 18 months so you should be good to go!

It is totally fine to give it to her. She's close enough to 2yrs anyways.

I started giving my DD peanut butter when she was about 1 1/2 yrs. She did just fine with it. Hope this helps:)

I found out at 14 mos that my son has a severe nut allergy. We went to the ER in anaphylaxis and it was really scary. It probably will be ok for you, but just wanted to pass along that all of the allergists recommend waiting until a child is 3 before giving them any nuts.

Good luck!

They say the first year no eggs or peanut butter. I babysit and give the 1 1/2 year olds pbj's all the time. They love 'em.

I never knew that there was an "age" in order to eat peanut butter. My son was eating peanut butter at 17 months. He loves eat it with jelly. If I don't watch it, he might just turn into a peanut! LOL.
