Hi everyone
My son will turn 1 year in 2 weeks. He naps 2 times during the day; thirst I put him around 10 am(he naps for 25-45 min). Next time he goes to sleep at 2pm(same thing just for 45min max)He goes to sleep for night at 9pm until 7-7:30 am(he can wake up during the night 1-2 times very often, but usually is back to sleep by his own)My question is can I cut his morning nap, so he could have longer time to sleep? Or he is too young to have just 1 nap? Actually, he's never been a great sleeper.

What can I do next?

Hi M.,
My daughter will be 1 yr. on the 24th, so they are pretty much the same age. I,too am trying to cut her back to one longer nap. With my older ones it was right around this age that it started to become possible. With them there were a lot of times when they would be falling asleep during lunch. I would say go for it. It may take a little getting used to, but this seems to typically be the age that works well.

At age one, we transitioned our son to just one nap right after lunch (12:30-2:30 or so). It was tough cutting out the morning nap, but he adjusted entirely after like 2 weeks. Also, to echo what the other moms said, try putting him to bed earlier at night. My son is almost 2 and goes to bed at 7pm and sleeps until almost 7am....they need a lot of sleep at this age! And a mom of a toddler needs her rest too!! Good luck!

my son is 13 months today :) He sleeps from 8pm to about 7-730am and takes only one nap a day. Ill put him down from anywhere between 11/12 and he'll usually sleep until about 2/230. Although there's days like this where he fell asleep at 12 and its 3 now and hes still sleeping!! good luck :)

My 2yr old has never slept well and now if he takes a nap it throws everything off but when he was almost 1 he was only napping once during the day usually around 11-1230/100 and then would go to sleep for the night at 630-7 if your son isn't sleeping good at night you are probably putting him to bed too late try putting him down between 7-8 and cut out his morning nap so he gets one long one.

If he is only sleeping until 7 or 7:30 I would try putting him down earlier. My son at 1 year was finally a good sleeper. He slept from 9pm to 9am. And took a good two to three hour nap in the afternoon. The first nap your son is taking is pretty much an extension of sleep from the night before, so he does need it. Maybe he will go down ealier in the morning. Perhaps feed him and see if he will go back to sleep. I did this with my son from 10 months to 13 months. Then he started to sleep later and later. Finally he was sleeping 12 hours straight. If you do cut down to one nap make sure he sleeps through for two hours. Make sure he eats enough that morning and afternoon. Then put him down, he may wake up after 45 minutes but he should go back to sleep. My son would do that. He would wake up and cry for a minute and go back to sleep and sleep for another hour and a half. He is almost two and still sleeps for two hours in the afternoon. Some mornings he wakes up at 7:30, but he stays in his crib dozing in and out until 8:30. On Saturday, he slept until 9. His bedtime has been 9 o'clock since he was 10 months old. It doesn't really matter how many naps they have, as long as they are sleeping enough through the night plus the naps. About 13-14 hours I think??
