I have been looking for a new pre-school program for my 4 yr. old son and I found out that my school district offers a FREE PRE-K program. The school is Horace Mann School in Blue Island.
Does anyone have any information on this school? It sounds too good to be true. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

What can I do next?

what maureen said is true, however they are supposed to start offering free public school pre-k programs in the state of illinois this year. The bill was passed earlier this year (I think). I just did not know if it had started or not. I know that in Lansing it is still an at risk program. At risk also includes children with low income not just learning problems, but typically it is kids with learning problems. I would call the school and ask to visit. You can do that and while you are there ask what kind of program it is. good luck. Also think about checking park districts around you, b/c ours in town was a great pre-k program.

The program may just be for kids with who are considered "At risk" or are special ed. I just remember visiting a long time ago for my practicum in spec. ed. My school districts pre-k is only free for at risk or kids on an IEP (oak forest). Call and find out. Good luck

Just an FYI, but the pre-school programs offered at public schools are usually for at-risk children (learning disabilities, speech issues, behavior disorders, etc.) who go thru a screening to qualify for this pre-school service. maybe this school is different...
