Hello C.,
I homeschool and love the freedom. Started when our daughter was 6 while we were living in Texas. It has been a great experience for our family. Here is a good website to start with..
http://www.rmec-online.com/laws/CO_law_inanutshell.html
If your children have currently been in a regular school setting I would suggest taking 2 weeks to a month off just to - deschool... There is an article on that website that talks about it. Do fun stuff during that time and find out what they are interested in learning.
Then you just go from there. We use a unite study for school which we love, it has really brought learning to life for my children. It contains alot of hands on activities too. Covers everything except for math. http://learning-adventures.org/
Here is a sorce I use for some curriculum:

Mardels in Littleton has curriculum you could look through too. There are online curriculums. SO many options. Don't let it overwhelm you just pick something that works for you and your family.
Though the last couple of years we have been using alot of library books and doing projects with what we have been learning.
You can look at our family blog at the kids JamesTown project if you like: http://W.-adventures.blogspot.com/
There are so many opportunities out there more so than any other education system out there whether it is private or public.
Ok I have rattled on enough - if you have any questions feel free to ask me. There are some neat homeschool groups in the area too I could share with you too. Some you can find on Yahoo.
The main thing is to have FUN and not Stress.. Homeschooling is a lifestyle - just embrace it for what it is and you will see your chidren blossom like never before..
Noticed you are looking to add more income to your family..I could help you with that too. I work from home and love it. My website is: www.AHomeCareer.com
I am in Referral Marketing for a health and wellness company.
Have a great weekend!
C.
