Holiday Bonus for Daycare Provider

I have a dilemma. I would like to give my daycare provider some sort of gift for the holidays. She has watched my son every (work) day for the past 1 1/2 years. She is literally like my son’s other mommy, and I feel very blessed to have found her to care for my baby. It is just my son and her 2 children at her house.
Last year I gave her a gift card for Motherhood Maternity, as she was expecting and always mentioning how she had nothing to wear. This year she hasn't made any comments as to what she might like. Do I give cash? It seems a little impersonal. Someone suggested a weeks pay. Any ideas or what have you done?

What can I do next?

M. - I am a personal nanny for a family. They have a little girl (2) that I have been watching for about 16 months. Last year (after only being with her for for about 4 months) she gave me $50, and it was great to be able to buy myself something. I am hoping that since I have been with her much longer now (a whole nother year) that I will get more ( I at least believe I deserve more). Money is great, if you put it with chocolate it is EVEN BETTER!!

Best Xmas/Winter gift ever...surprise her with extra pay for the holidays. Just add it to the check. A week would be great. Thinks about how you would feel to get a paycheck that was double what you were expecting with a "Happy Holidays, THANKYOUSOMUCHFORALLYOUDOFORUS!!!" written on it.

Many people I know do this for their nannies, and some companies even still give bonuses to their employees. The standard is 1-2 weeks.

If you want a personal touch that's a little classy...tie the check to some truffles...or half submerge it in a little jar of her favorite coffee beans...or take your son to one of the ceramics places (there's one in U Village & Redmond Town Center) and have him paint a mug or plate and put his handprint on it or sign it. Any of those little extras only cost about $10.

I got a certificate for a massage. That was very nice, as it is something I would not normally spend any of my own money on. It was VERY nice!

Our little girl only goes to daycare 4 hours a week so we don't give huge gifts. We have given a photo ornament along with $20 (it's only $25/week for us). Last year we gave a little more but in the form of a Target gift card. I know she liked that. We also make cookies for her and give little things once in awhile during the year.

I gave a $50 restaurant card last year to her fav place. I would think this year cash would be best with the economy being what it is.

I definatly don't think cash is impersonal. If your worried about that, just put it in a card that you feel is more personal. Cash is really what people need right now. If she has two of her own kids, I would recommend giving it to her before christmas so she can use it for her kids or a christmas gift of her own if she needs to.
