My oldest will graduate from High School next year. I am trying to think of something that I can do, maybe a scrapbook of his life or a CD of pictures? I was wondering if anyone else here has had a child graduate that might have some neat ideas.

What can I do next?

Well I dont have a child graduating from High school. But, When I graduated My Grand mother made me a quilt. I love it, to this day when I get homesick or Cold I cuddle up in it. It is great for dorm rooms too.
Congrats on the graduation.

Hi K.,

My daughter graduated in 2000 and I wrote her a story of her life. It took me weeks and lots of tears to get it finished before graduation. I started from the day I met her dad to getting preganant, my delivery all the way to her graduation day.
I printed it and made a book out of it. I added pictures of her from birth to graduation throught out the book. It was beautiful. She loved it and she still talks about it today.

Here is what I did when my oldest graduated. I got in his email and I got all of his friends emails. Then I created a web page with pictures of him when he was little and his life as he grew up. Then I sent the link to all his friends, family members everyone. I also sent a graduation invitation to all his teachers thorough out his life in school ( elementary) and especially made sure that his first teacher got one. At first he was so embarrassed but then people started sending him congrats on the web page and his friends thought that it was the greatest "gift". Also people started leaving memories of when he was in school, especially the teachers and it was just great. I kept it up for about a month and then printed all the pages with memories and messages and put it in a book. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Hi Kelly- I have little ones, but I went to a graduation party that I loved the idea - Her Mom took pictures, letters, created pictures,etc... that she had collected through the years. she took the originals and had them copied enlarged them and posted them all over the house along with streamers and ballons, this was so much fun all of her friends were there and they had a blast!

Hope you like it!

Sorry this is a little late...

But I just renewed my wedding vows and this idea would be perfect for a graduation gift too. We collected all our pictures from childhood to adulthood to when we met to when we married to when we had our daughter to so on and so on. Then we had a friend scan them onto a DVD with cool backdrops and set it all to our favorite song. The pictures where also shots with us and family and friends. So it was a tribute to our life as well as to theirs. Everyone really enjoyed this, as it was the prelude to our renewal ceremony. After the reception dinner, people went back to watch it again. Hope this helps.

When both of my older sister's boys graduated from HS, she and several other families got together and planned a big party. I think there were about 20 kids who all hung out together and the parents chipped in however much money and called around for places to have the event and a DJ or live band and food. It was alcohol free and allowed the kids to hang out with family and friends to celebrate the next big step of their lives. They had a place to take pictures and video taped the event so the kids would have something to remember and the best part was it was safe and kept them off the streets with those kids who were drinking and driving. I thought it was brainiac idea and will use the idea for my daughter when she graduates ........ in 18 years. :) Good luck and let us know what you do. Maybe we could use the idea as well.

My mother did two books when I graduated. One book was a scrapbook, which I still treasure, and the other was a book the same size with blank pages. We used this book as the guest signing book for my grad party, but then I had all these pages to paste things that happened in college on. I love those two books! My mom also wrote me a poem on the back page. If you are not so into the writing poems your self, maybe you could put the words from your song to him. I have songs for each of my daughters, like "I hope you dance," and "Yellow." Good luck. Oh, and disposable cameras for guests are not just a good thing to have at weddings!

my question is...is this thing you want to create is it, for you or him? if creation is for you, you want something sentimental such as video diary of him growing and maturing. And if the creation is for him, I would make it durable, manly, testosterone injected, and with the capability of being able to add to it, as he is still growing, and maturing, and doing fun things in college, that he will want to remember also.

I think both your ideas are great! Have you thought of a video diary? Have friends and family videotaped, telling what they think is special about him or what they hope the future holds for him or a special memory they have shared with him. You could combine these with pictures throughout his life. I have a son 30 yrs old and a daughter that will be celebrating her 7th birthday on the 26th of Jan. It seems like only yesterday that my son was 7 yrs old! My husband and I always wanted a boy and a girl. We didn't know there would be over two decades between their births!!

When I graduated from High School, my mom made me a collage of pictures and put them in a nice frame. She displayed key moments of me as I was growing (first day of school, first car, etc.) I still love it, and it is hanging on my wall still. This is something small and thoughtful that you could do!!

I graduated just a few years ago and I would have loved the scrap book idea. My mother in law gave my husband one for his birthday last year that was from the start of his life including meeting, marrying his dad to the birth of our children. It's a great idea and I think that he would like it too.
