Hey, ADHD Mamas!!!

Hi-hi,
I'll keep this one brief:
I'm an ADHD kid. I usually medicate with caffeine and a burgeoning regimen of self care / funky routine choices. This works out well and, for the most part, I enjoy my brain immensely. Here's the catch: I'm all sorts of pregnant. And, with pregnancy, I'm choosing not to caffeinate as much as I normally would. This is difficult, especially because I am a full time student and I desperately need (focused!) use of all my brain cells.
Any suggestions?

TIA

Sex
Stress
Water
Loud Music

Sex for the sensory overload 'reset'

Stress (the 'fun' kind, like procrastination & being late & crises, not he soul eating kind) for the adrenaline

Water (think swimming, baths, & showers), for the focusing sensory component. I WISH I had underwater headphones for my arabic class, right now. Probably a good thing I don't. Then I'd have to shave. LOL. Small blessings ;)

Loud music to drown out the world and create the same emotional vibe you need for xyz paper/project/etc. (I choose different music for every novel, so that when I put it on, I'm immediately in story mode. If you use A to study __________, if you can TEST with _____ playing, more the better. Or listen to it on the way to the exam. Seriously. Awesome trick. For those of us who Chillax in chaos, anyway.

I did Adderall for school but I have noticed that if I am doing a million things during class I retain better. So I would surf, read, message, email, and in the background listen to my professor.

Pretty much first day of class, hi, I'm J., I am ADD and this is how I learn. Not one professor gave me grief. Never had to take notes.

My daughter is ADD and pregnant so she had to stop with the medication and reduce caffeine intake. She soaks in the tub when upset. She spends time alone in her room from time to time and lets hubby deal with the kids. And she and I go out to eat and shop so that she has adult time. But that's not enough, she says. Her last baby is 21 months old now and she was looking forward to getting back on the meds when she discovered she's pregnant again. This one is due June 21. No meds until she's thru breast feeding. : (

My granddaughter has ADHD and is having difficulty in school. She is starting with a therapist who asked her to buy the book, Where's My Stuff about ways to get organized. It's geared towards kids and teens but it might be helpful for adults too. In looking for that book I also saw other workbooks for adults to help learn ways to focus better. I'd go to the bookstore and see what they have. Then check it out at the library if they have it. The library here doesn't have the two he recommended.

Try music and changing things up.
I am ADHD and in classes as well. I am not currently on meds and I don't drink much caffeine.
I listen to movie scores when I am studying. Can't be anything with words in it or I end up singing along with it and get nothign done but a good movie score like Sherlock Holmes , Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter. Anything Zimmer, Williams , etc.
And changing things up like, I study for an hr or 2 then get up and clean for 15-30 mins , then get back to studying. Yesterday I did one assignment ,then worked on cleaning my living room, then another assignment and worked on cleaning the kitchen. ETC I have also found that making a schedule of when I will work on what. I am taking physics and astronomy both have labs and when I make a schedule of when I will do what I find I don't wait till the last minute to do everything.

Caffiene is an adrenal gland receptor stimulator. Your body is not putting out the hormones you need for it to be able to function normally. You are unkowingly, self medicating a deficiency.
If you do not have enough hormones for you, then that means even less for your baby. Your baby can also have hormone deficiency too. That is not good. The last thing you need is to put your child on meds.

Caffiene triggers your adrenal gland to put out more cortisol, adrenaline, and dopamine. All three can be low with adrenal fatigue. Adrenline increases heart rate, blood flow to brain and extremities, memory becomes more accute. your eyes dialate, etc.

You can get over the counter hydrocortisone for your skin. But you should go get your cortisol levels checked with a SALIVA cortisol test. Be off of coffee and any other drugs for 2 weeks first.
