Help with Solid and Milk Schedule for 10 Month Old

Hello,
My daughter is almost 10 months and I am feeling lost as far as what her food schedule should be! Right now she has milk at 7am, 11am, 3pm, amd 6:30/7pm. She has her solids at 8am, 1pm, 5/5:30pm. Her milk intake has gone done to only about 3-5 oz per feeding (which I know is normal as her solid meals are full meals with protein and fruits and/or veggies.) Occasionally she will have cheerios or puffs as a snack. She has not mastered the sippy cup yet but we are working on that. So, my question is, what makes sense as far as when she should have milk/meals/snacks? I am feeling so lost so any help is appreciated!

What can I do next?

Look for a balance in nutrients when feeding her. Example: my toddler has tomato soup, egg yolk and baked potato w/butter. Her snack 2hours later is usually fruit, then the following meal 2hours later can be turkey w/veggies, then 2 hours later full fat yogurt w/little fruit. And, of course, plenty of water in between.

As to WHEN to feed, let her tell you when she's hungry. Feed her when you see signs of hunger, not when you think she's hungry. Otherwise, you'll stress yourself out thinking she might not like a particular food, when in actuality, she may not be hungry.

Hope this helps. Don't forget, just when you think you have their schedule down, they'll change it on you.

Your schedule sounds perfect to me. I also give my babies a few spoonfuls of water after they eat solids, at least until they figure out the sippy cup. I use the book Super Baby Food as my reference, and here's the schedule she gives for a 10 month old:

Upon Awakening: breast/bottle
Breakfast: three food servings and breast/bottle/cup
Morning Snack: good food snack
Lunch: three food servings and a cup of breast milk/formula
Afternoon Snack: good food snack
Supper: three food servings and cup of breastmilk/formula
Bedtime: breast or bottle of water

(one serving is about 2-3 tbsp. she also says that this age needs about 24-32 oz. of breast milk or formula/day)

My babies never ate that much, but that's what I try. My baby of 3 just turned 1 Saturday and still doesn't eat this much.

Good luck!

Hi J.! I too wasn't sure about the food schedule for my daughter who just turned 1 a few weeks ago. But one suggestion I do have is to try to only feed her when she seems hungry. I honestly think that you may be feeding her too often. When my daughter was 10 mos I was giving her 3 bottles + 3 meals a day--I would start off first thing with a bottle. Then 1 1/2-2 hours later would be breakfast. Next meal would be lunch. Afternoon bottle as a snack. Dinner at home with my husband and I and then finish the night off with a bottle. I would always give her a sippy cup with water throughout the day and she just loved that. I got to the point where I found myself over analyzing it all too much and just started pay more attention to her cues and it is all working out really well. You will get to that point too! Good luck!

Hi J.! My daughter just turned 10 months old a couple of days ago and I was having the same issue as you are having. But I have to agree with Lindsay, listen to her cues. I have received so much advice on how much she has to eat a day (solids & breast milk/formula), but just remember that every baby is different. What works for your daughter or mine may not necessarily work for someone else. I don't have a schedule, per say, that I follow for when I feed my daughter a bottle. I feed her when I know that a bottle is what she wants. As for solids, I am feeding her Gerber #2 foods. Here is my schedule:

Morning: cereal (oatmeal, barley, rice, mixed grain, etc...)with fruit (bananas, apples, pears, etc...). Whatever you choose basically.

Afternoon: a vegetable and a fruit (however much she eats is fine).

Evening: dinner entree (vegetable chicken, turkey & rice, beef w/beef gravy, etc...) and a fruit

Then I give her a bath and then feed her a bottle right before bed.

We don't have particular "times" that we feed her (except bedtime - 7:00 p.m.!) and it seems to work for us. She is in the 60th percentile, so I think she's doing just fine! :)

I hope this helps a little bit. Please let me know if you have any other questions. It helps so much to know that other moms deal with the same thing! Good luck!
