Help with Room Decor

Howdy,
I know a lot of you crafty ladies out there hopefully will give me a hand. We have 3 bedrooms upstairs and a few months back I started redecorating the spare one to turn into my office. It was going to be ocean/seashell themed so the walls were painted ocean/robin egg blue. My issue is that the room is on a dormer and the walls are stucco, so matching the ceiling paint to the wall paint is impossible so a wall paper border is required (God I love old houses). Any ways, now that I am expecting a new little one in December we have decided to forgo the office and have my 6/7 year old move into that room. He does not want to repaint it but we have NO IDEA what theme the wal paper border theme could be for a boy in a robin egg blue room. I have gotten on line to research borders but have not had any luck. A sports theme (per son) and skateboarding theme 9per husband) are also not an option.

So, what on earth boy theme could go with this color room? Help!

What can I do next?

Hi J.-

What about an airplane theme or space theme, as in "into the wild blue yonder"? We have a rocket ship border from Somersault (ordered through ToysRUs), but is probably too young for a 6 year old. Good luck!

J. - we did for my son who does not like sports my husband carried the blue all the way up the ceiling and he then painted clouds on it his ceiling was kind of stuccoie too. Then we did a light colored paper on the bottom and an animal themed border. When it was done I have to tell you I loved it! Still we have the cloud up there and I find his room so relaxing. Maybe you could do clouds or sky w/ planets.....or something like that.

Three thoughts -
1st - my son's room is light blue and we painted a beige border around the room at the chair molding level. Looks cool. We went with a Space theme so he would grow into it. Found the quilt in Land of Nod and went cheap with the decor (Target and HOmegoods).

2nd - my sis-in-law did her sons room with scientific stuff. She has a huge Periodic table on the wall and pics of Einstein and stuff. Very cool...

3rd - go with Karate/ninja stuff. Sounds like he loves it!!

Get a wall poster/sticker thing and do spider man swinging across the sky. We did blue walls on all but one, painted a brick pattern with textured paint on the 4th and went with a firehouse theme (colors came from bedding and pictures), this will later be changed to superman/spiderman crashing through the brick wall or something. Aquarium theme, Paint the sky a night blue(dark) and put up stars and do an astro theme.

J.; I was looking for this web site and finally found it. It carries transfers of all sorts. The company name is: Tatouage Design. Now I haven't looked at it in awhile, but they did carry every subject and design to transfer on to the walls, easy on, easy off. And I'm almost positive that they have borders. But if you want to get rid of that "popcorn" ceiling, this is what my husband did. He sprayed it with water using a spray bottle, took a wide metal scrapper, like for drywall, and scrapped off the stucco into a metal dust pan. I hated that stuff. Our ceiling looks great now. Let me know if you go to the site for the transfers and find what you're looking for. Best to you! J.

Boats! Why not stick with the water theme and just expand it a bit. Sailboats and ocean stuff. Very nautical and cool.

Not sure why you think you NEED a border... you can decorate without wall paper, by adding pictures, and other wall hangings. A very cool sailboat wall run would be pretty cool.

Good luck! congrats on the new baby!

J.; i dont know why you feel you HAVE to have a border put up, if the room is light blue now, make the ceiling yellow like the sun or sky, my boys room was that color and i painted clouds on them it looked great, i cut out a cardboard in a cloud shape, little bumps all around and then i held it up to the wall and spraypainted white around it, it gave a cool effect, if the ceiling was a contrasting color you dont need a border, what color is the carpet ? if carpet is one color like say red, or even green you can do the four colors, red, blue , yellow, green etc, you dont need a theme, but you can still do the beach sand theme, with shells, and stuff, maybe whales or fish ? dont feel you have to settle on a border, make your own border with paint, just have fun, the kid will just be happy with any ole room, and remember painting my boys rooms and they dont really care that things match or whatever its us moms that do, ahahah either way , you can make your own border with a splatter effect, dip your fingertips in paint of a color and fling our fingers in the direction of the splatter you want it do this till you have gone around the room, this can loook great, just have fun, ive also seen where they take the boys hand print have him put his hand in the paint, and put his hand on the wall, if the walls are blue and the ceiling yellow, like the sky you can put a border of grass at the bottom of wall ? heck have fun with it, dont look at old houses and bad to deal with loook at it as anew way to design i had a old house and i painted a crooked border on purpose, on this wal the border went up at a diagonal, and then apppeared to bounce down at another angle on other wall it was one continual border but different on each wall, i would even bounce it off the ceiling like angle it across a ceiling part to join to other wall, any way if you would like to discuss more feel free to contact me thanks D. s
