OK. I swallowing my pride here because I really want to find out what have been your post kids experiences with your bladder. Since having kids (youngest are 9 1/2), I've had to stop and cross my legs if I was going to cough or sneeze or laugh too hard. If I was going to do any sport with impact potential, I would wear a pad just to be safe. Many years ago, I met with a bladder doctor and he told me I was not at the point of needing surgery then to suspend the bladder. I'm a real natural kind of person and prefer not to do surgery if I can avoid it. However, I'm getting tired of feeling like I should be wearing Depends at my age! I have been trying to do Kegel exercises, but so far have not seen much improvement. My doctor told me people now get great results from the surgery.

Please let know any tips/tricks that have worked for you. If you've had surgery, please share any success or failures as well as top-notch doctors names. What kind of surgeries are available and what is the recovery like?

Thanks in advance.
S.

My chiropractor uses cold laser therapy on the S2 vertebrae while I do kegel exercises. Sometimes the nerve gets turned off so no matter how many kegels you do it doesn't do any good. After this treatment the nerves turn back on and you regain control. I've had to do it a few times as my pelvic muscles are becoming stronger, but it works!

Hi S.
A conservative approach that works is a specialty of Physical Therapy. I am a PT and have a friend that does only this type of PT. It goes beyond the typical Keigle exercises, really targeting the weak pelvic floor muscles and strengthening them. I don't know of any in this area (I'm from Virginia until recently and my friend is in Virginia), but you should call around or ask your OB/GYN if they know any physical therapists specializing in Women's health. Hope this helps.

I know it probably isn't what you're hoping to hear, but it seems that the surgery really may be your best bet. While I haven't dealt with this issue personally, a couple of close friends have. Both delayed for years, hoping something else would work. But if Kegels didn't help, I don't know if there is much else. They both eventually had the surgery. The first one had great results, but the second one just had had hers done a couple weeks ago- and so far, so good. She is still basically recovering. This is supposed to be a fairly easy procedure, sometimes going home the same day. I'm sorry I can't give you names of Dr.'s as both of these friends are from out of town. This can really be a life-changing surgery, so I want to encourage you to go for it. It really won't improve on it's own. Good luck!

Hi S.

I have 3 children myself, only much older - 21, 17 and 11. I am also a fitness professional for 25 years now and have trained many ladies in your predicament who have had great results with reversing this condition and avoiding surgery. I have a website www.myfridayfitness.com which you can go to and I have a wonderful, private studio right here at my home in Castle Rock where I train all my clients at very affordable prices (I have some great summer special pricing running right now influenced by our terrible economy!) and if you would like you can just email me and I can give you a couple of exercises to get you off. I do have an introductory session rate for just $29 if you would like to come in for an hour's session as well. Please let me know if you are intersted and I would love to help you. I don't mind if you just want to ask me about some exercises over email, although, I am sure you are aware that without visual assistance it is limiting. However, I don't want you to feel compelled or obligated to purchase a session. I hope to hear from you. Hang in there! Take care.

S.,

I am in the same boat sad to say! I have had 4 kids I have been told the same my bladder is "not bad enough for surgery" so take this medicine or that but the side effects are not so pleasant nor is the expense. I was told the pregnancy and birth process has worn on my parts and its part of motherhood along with aging. Vesicare is the only thing so far that has provided some relief. No I cannot laugh, sneeze, cough, run, dance and it is worse certain times of the month. I would love to hear if you hear of some cure that actually works.

Get a Kegelmaster2000, it will change your life! Not only will take care of the incontience but it will dothings for your sex life that you just won't believe. You can order online or probably get at an adult store. If you don't have a vibrator then either buy one or get the Kegelmaster that comes with a free "second" device. You'll need it the first few times you use the Keglemaster to help you be certain you are using the right muscles. Using your abdominal muscles may not help and might make some problems worse. Just doing kegels isn't enough to resolve this, you need the resistance of the device. Losing weight and doing some general fitness work will help too.

I lost 40 lbs, took up running, ate a healthy diet and have done kegels for years but while those helped, I still had trouble with sudden and frequent urgency. With the Kegelmaster I've got it under control and then some. They cost about $100 and are worth every penny. The added bonus is that you will be as tight (or tighter) as you were before you had kids and have some great muscle control. You and your partner should find that your sexual responsiveness goes up several levels!

I feel your pain. Not quite as bad but i am already dealing with this issue at some level and am planning to have another baby so I am a bit worried. There is an exercise called Kegels. The way you do them is squeeze your vaginal muscles (like you are trying to stop peeing in the middle of the stream) you hold them for 5-10 seconds and do this about 5-10 times in a row. It is not easy if you are doing it right. You can do this several times a day. Even while sitting on the computer. There are also something called Ben Wa balls. Most people think they are sexual but they are for strengthening these muscles. You do have to purchase them at an adult toy store but you put them in the vagina and you naturally use those muscles to hold them in. maybe these things will help you good luck.
