Help from Moms with Curly Hair

Do any of you have very thick hair that is curly but also fine? Most people I know with curly hair have course hair. When it is humid my hair goes wild! When it was longer, sometimes I would get a Redkin Day into Night perm because it had humidity control. But I really just need the humidity control. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Thanks so much to those of you who suggested the Ouidad products. My hair looks great!

I use Suave Damage Control shampoo and conditioner and it helps cut down on the frizz and fly-aways. There is also a spray-on product that works for humidity control, but I can't remember the name. I know it is the same company that makes Hair Cholesterol. I couldn't use it because I also have oily hair at the scalp and it made the oiliness worse, but it may work for you.

YES, my hair is just like yours, I struggled my whole life especially on humid days, I found a hair salon in Plano where they specialize in curly hair. The product they use is called Ouidad. I absolutely love it, it really works. The lady that cut my hair is Karen. The cut is expensive (about 150. but it was worth every penny) She took so much time with me and explained in detail how to use the product. I use the Heat and Humidity gel. I highly recomend it - I don't dread those humid days any more. I sound like a commercial but it really does work. Ouidad has a website where you can purchase the product online or you can buy it at a Ouidad certified salon. You can't get it anywhere else. At the salon in Plano they show you the rake and shake method which works wonders!!!!!Please feel free to send me a private message, I would love to help you because I know exactly what you are going through!!!!

My hair is super fine and I have ringlets. I have to admit I straighten it most of the time but what I love when I travel to the beach is Tresemme curling milk and Dove Moisture moose. hope that helps!

try to comb only once -- either in shower or after to keep down frizz. use good leave in conditioner (phyto?) or silicone product. just be careful if you have oily skin as silicone products can also cause breakouts.

I dont' have thick, curly hair that is fine, but I have ALOT of curly hair that is fine. My hair is much like Nicole Kidman's when she wears it curly. I agree with Nicki D., Ouidad Climate Control is great. I also like the Ouidad Botanical Boost. These two products control the mess, keep your hair soft and moisturized, but don't make your hair crunchy. I can't stand crunchy curls!

I know your pain, I have ringlets, and have struggled with my hair my entire life. My favorite product is pricey, but great! It's called "After Party" by Bed Head. It is a cream I put on my hair once it is dry. The container I have right now, I've had for more than 6 months. It doesn't take much, so it's so worth the extra money.

I buy Apoghee Gloss Therapy at Sally's Beauty Supply and use it on freshly washed hair under/before any other products. It has the same effect as a silicone based gloss. It coats the hair and keeps moisture from effecting it so much. Just about a quarter size spot and rub it in, especially on the ends in back. Then I use something like Pantene spray gel or mousse.

I have lots of fine curly hair. Mine falls into ringlets on most of my head, but in the humidity I look like Diana Ross! It gets heeyooge! I have found in the summer I need to get all product off my hair in the shower, so no leave in conditioner and make sure my hair is clean when getting out, run a comb through it, put in some mousse or gel, and leave it until its dry, then separate the curls. Also when its wet, after I have put in the gel or mousse, I spin small bunches of hair around my finger to make ringlets, then scrunch a bit. This helps the hair holds its definition evne in the humidity.

A good haircut helps too, make sure your hair is cut into longer layers, and its sculpted. Don't just go to Great Clips and expect a good cut on fine curly hair, go to an actual salon where they can take their time.

Use conditioner. I have found a couple of things over the years that help. Kiehl's is expensive and can only be purchased a neiman marcus. Also, other products you can probably get at Beauty Brands, Alterna and Morrocan Treatment.

i think alot of people with curly hair have fine hair. I don't have curly hair but my daughter does. I use a John Freida product on her hair called Frizz-Ease, Dream curl. I like it because it keeps the curls looking curly and you can't tell there is any product in her hair. My bff uses it in her hair and her daughters.

OK, this is what you HAVE to do and someone else suggested it too. The Styling Hutch in Plano "specializing in naturally curly hair." All the stylists are trained in the Ouidad cut, the lady's name that cut my dtr's hair is named Kris. So, I recommend her, but I assume they are all the same. They carry Ouidad products too, the first time we went back in Nov the cut and the $60 bottle of the climate control was about $180, I think, with the tip. Very expensive, yes, but totally worth it. I'll send you a picture of my dtr's hair after the cut if I can. I think the cut starts at $105 and we go about every 3 months. I bought the deep conditioning treatment last month when we went, and this month til the 21st, they are having a special the climate control, 10% off? Call and ask. This cut & these products will make you love your hair again and you will get SO many compliments. We have used everything out there, and these products are the best. Good luck, here's the website:

and here's the phone number ###-###-####.

You won't regret it!

I scrunch mine with mousse while wet and rarely have a problem with the humidity. It makes it a bit crunchy, but I live in a high humidity area, and I'd rather have a bit of crunch than crazy flyaway hair. :-)
