Does anyone know where you can go to get some help for single moms? I'm am going through a divorce and I can't afford to do this on my own. Staying with my ex is not an option. I'm trying to find an apartment for me and my son, but rent is too high. I only have a month or so before I have to leave where we're at now. Can anyone give me some suggestions, please?!

I have a 2 1/2 year old son.

What can I do next?

Try www.mhvillage.com There, you can find mobile homes to rent for a lot cheaper than renting an apartment. I know many moms who have used that site to find affordable mobile home living with great success.

Have you considered sharing a house with another single mom and child? I would look into that as well as go to social services and see if you qualify for any housing or housing aid. Best wishes to you.

Im in a similar situatin. I just left and have got my own place. Not sure if you are working or not or what your financial plans are. I left the state so am looking for work. In the meantime I needed to get some state assistance(never did this before) I have found the hard way that these things can take extra time. If you have family or friends you could go to for a month or so just to get things in the works that would be good. I wanted to just leave and not go to court, it didnt work out that way but to my benefit he needs to pay child support. This is so fresh to me I just made the move in Dec. and still have things togo through in court. But I want to tell you this HANG IN THERE it may seem impossible right now , but it isnt. It will get easier.

have you looked into subsidized housing? I know it's a little different from state to state but they usually try to house people who most need it first. They go by how many are in the house hold and your income. My brother and sister in law got married, she was pregnant and neither one of them were working (he was looking) and I think she did teach dance but it was one class once a week so she didn't get payed very much. They got into subsidized housing and only had to pay $45 dollars a month for a 2 bedroom apartment. That included all their utilities too! Of course once he got a job and was make money too their rent when up but only to $250 a month. So still super cheap.

Check out some of the charity organizations in your area or nearby areas. I know here we have Catholic Charities which does alot for many in different situations. Check out you yellow pages or ask at a police department for local woman's shelter. Eventhough you may not be a battered wife they may know of resources for people just like yourself.

Do the best you can do for your son always even if that decision may be not the best for you personally.

You said you have a month or more? If you are not working, dont be too proud to go to the government and get some assistance. They will provide you with money, food and low income housing.
