Help - Little Elm, TX

My son's 3rd birthday party is today. We had planned a slip & slide in the back yard until we heard the high today will be 70 and windy. Can any of you help us with LAST MINUTE ideas of how to keep 6 kids (mostly 3 year olds) entertained in our back yard w/out spending a lot of money.

What can I do next?

You could do a scavenger hunt and theme it to match the birthday party. Sack races are good. If you have a sand box you could do a dino dig and place small dinosaurs in the sand. I hope this helps.

2.FREEZE- GET THE CHILDREN IN A STRAIGHT LINE FACING YOU .IF YOU GET ONE CHILD AND ASK THE REST TO MAKE A LINE BEHIND HIM OR HER THEN, STAND NEXT TO THE LINE AND ASK EVERYONE TO FACE YOU.... THE LINE WILL BE DONE EASIER.

THE RULES ARE: WE ARE ALL GOING TO DANCE. WHEN I STOP THE MUSIC EVERYONE MUST FREEZE AND MAKE A FUNNY FACE LIKE THIS ( YOU FREEZE AND MAKE A FUNNY FACE). ARE YOU READY? OK LETS START.

YOUR JOB DURING THIS GAME IS TO DANCE WITH THEM. STOP AND START THE MUSIC AND THEN FREEZE ALONG WITH THEM. AT THE END CHOOSE 2 OR 3 BEST FREEZERS AND FUNNY FACES AND ANNOUNCE THEM AS THE WINNERS.

7.FOLLOW THE LEADER: LINE EVERYONE BEHIND YOU OR BEHIND THE CHARACTER. HAVE THE CHILDREN FOLLOW YOU OR THE CHARACTER AROUND THE PARTY DOING WHAT THE LEADER DOES. DO HAND MOVEMENTS, JUMP, WIGGLE, AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF. THIS PARADE AROUND THE PARTY GETS THE GUEST A CLOSER LOOK AND YOU GO THROUGH THE TABLES AND EVERYONE WILL ENJOY THE PARADE.

YOUR JOB IS TO BE THE LEADER OR BE IN THE FOLLOW THE LEADER LINE. AT THE END PICK THE YOUNGEST PARTICIPANTS AS THE WINNERS.

10.THE HOKEY POKEY- MOST CHILDREN KNOW THIS DANCE TO, IT WILL BE LOTS OF FUN!!!!!

IF YOU HAVE FUN AT YOUR PARTIES, THE CHILDREN WILL TOO!!!!!!!!!!!

coloring or painting is always good. Making a mask or a puppet is usually a fun past time for my son.

there are great websites out there on different ideas for 3 year old bdays. Good luck

I'm sorry I just looked at my emails. 3 yr olds can make anything fun. Sack races, reg. races, hopping race, Simon says, limbo, jumping over a rope that moves side to side (instead of jump rope), ball or sponge toss. I made a pin the nose on the clown once out of a cardboard box, card stock and double stick tape. Also a toss the candy in the clowns mouth with another box. You can draw fairly easy using circles and other shapes. Again I'm sorry I was so late, I hope this helps someone and in the future.

Lots of balls!! Kids love them!! Just make sure there are enough for everyone.

Bubbles are also a great distraction. A sand/water table would be fun also, but may be more than you want to spend (my kids LOVE their's)

At this age about anything is fun for them. We think they need to be entertained, but simple things are probably the most fun.

Oh yeah, one more thing. What about watercolors? I let my kids "paint" their plastic play house with water colors since it rinses right off. They love this and I bet a bunch of 3 year olds would also!!!

Have fun!

Scavenger hunt or some type of thing (call it an exploded pinata) where the toys and candy are hidden all over the yard.
Olympics or some type of modified tri-athalon - set up several stations around the yard where they throw a ball through a hoop, run to the next one, do hopscotch, go the next one, etc.
Or call the parents and have them wear old clothes and let them make mud pies. Sounds messy, but my four year old loves to play in dirt and water.

3 year olds are easy they usually love blocks , any toys really and there will be sharing issues but no matter what they dont need anything fancy to have fun and you can always play with them they need more involvement not entertainmant at that age peek a boo pat a cake sing kids songs etc. all simple and all affordable, god bless

WATER BALLOONS! My 2 and 6 yo would do those all day if they could! I think if you turn them loose in the yard with outdoor toys they will find plenty to do. T-ball is a good idea. You can get a little set at the dollar store or wal mart for under 10.00. Go up and down the spring/outdoor aisle and you will surely find some cheap ideas! Do you have a camping tent you could set up in the back? They would love playing in that. Have fun!

Chalk, Bubbles, even some easy yard games. Maybe try their hand at baseball or t-ball. You can even do a fun obstical course with hoops and tunnels or whatever you have around your house. Even some water balloons - my little girl when she was 3 used to like to just throw them and watch them break on the grass or even sliding them down the slide.

Good luck.
