Moms,

I need some advice. My 10 month old son will be flying on a plane for the 1st time in a few days (we are visiting my parents in Minnesota). The flight is only 2 hrs and non-stop. Any advice as to what I can do to make sure he's the most comfortable (and QUIET!) during the plane ride???

What can I do next?

If you didn't buy your ds a seat then when you get to your gate ask if there are any available seats... say 3 in a row or whatever you need. We did that when dd was 6 mos. and it helped to let her sit on her own a bit, lay down, etc. without having to pay for a ticket! Bring lots of snacks for him, a pacifier or something to suck on while taking off and landing, and books, toys, etc. that will occupy him. If he likes music you could bring a radio/CD player/IPOD with headphones that he could listen to. It'll be fine!! :)

Hey S.,
I traveled w/ my son by myself & pregnant 4 times to Mexico, w/ changing air planes in between. What I did was only packed about 2-3 diapers went and got some of those $.89 huggie wipes from Marc's (the ones that have about 15 wipes in a plastic wrap) and then the rest was toys, the crayola markers that would only color on certain paper so he wouldn't grafiti the airplane..lol and i bought little toys that he never saw before so that it would keep his intrest while we were on the plane. I also found a dollar etch-a-sketch (however u spell it) that he could write on & then erase. I also had cars and dora stuff that he was into at the time. Oh yeah i had snacks and his juicy cup and would get like apple juice or milk from the attendants. I hope this suggestion might help. I know it did for me the 4 times i traveled to Mexico w/ my son and pregnant.. lol Good luck :)

My son is also 10 months, and has made two trips by plane. Some airlines let you preboard when you have a young child, ie Southwest Airlines. I would not worry too much about flying with your son, as he will since your anxiety. Also, there is a humming sound on the plane when you are in flight. That tends to drown out a lot of noise. Maybe you two could walk around before boarding so that he has the opportunity to expend some energy. Hopefully, the flight will fall during a nap, so he will sleep most of the way. I would avoid food and drink, as it can be messy, especially if someone is sitting next to you. Books are always great! Good luck! Try to relax

I have traveled a couple times with my son and have found the best thing to do it give them something that is a treat once they start getting really fussy. It could be a new book, a cookie, maybe a new stuffed animal.
My son was 4 months old when I first flew with him and nursing was the best thing I could do and he fell asleep for the rest of the flight.
Try and get your baby to suck on the way up at least and hopefully on the way down he will be asleep and the pressure won't bother him.
Have a great trip and try to enjoy!

I would take some books as well as any little nibble things he might be eating (i.e. cheerios). Sometimes airlines let you preboard, maybe getting him settled will help. If you are looking for something to relax him, I would call the pediatrician. Good Luck!!!!!
