HE Washers?

We just recently purchased a top loader HE washer and tho it isn't high end, it is much more sophisticated than what we did have, haha. Anyways, my question or dilemma is this... My towls are coming out greyish looking instead of my normal white that I get. Am I not using enough detergent? I am following all the instructions for load size and everything. I am using Tide HE for sensitive skin (b/c of my sons skin we use the fragerance and dye free).

Also, b/c it is HE it "senses" load size and doesn't use the normal amount of water that a reg washer does. So even if I set it on a "Super" load it only fills up to where the towels are which to me looks more like a med load. So, then I guess I don't know if I am using too much detergent and then also, why do I need to set a load size if the sensory thing is just going to stop the water wherever the clothes are at?

I am honestly overwhelmed with my new washer, haha.. and as I said, it isn't even a high end one. hahah.

thanks for the help!!

So What Happened?

Oh ya.... I didn't get a manual with my washer - I have requested one from the manufacture but have yet to receive it.

lol i believe we have the same washer ( i have the ge profile), i'm not having that problem but just wanted to let you know that there is a cash for clunkers with appliances. i got a $50 rebate visa card in the mail from the government. i live in michigan so your rebate may be a different amount. any new applicance that is energy star. maybe you can add alittle oxyclean to your load if your sons skin can't handle bleach. good luck. oh i think you can google cash for clunkers for applicances and get the rebate info.

Have you always used the Tide HE? Most detergents, even those "labeled" for sensitive skin remove the dirt and then it and the chemicals from the detergent settle back on the clothes especially if there is not enough water to powerfully rinse it down the drain. Water is necessary for rinsing....

From my husband's appliance background, HE detergent just means it is low sudsing so that the little amount of water can get the bulk of the detergent rinsed out. I think you simply have the dirt settling back on your clothes. I use a natural cleaner I get online that actually repels the dirt so it doesn't resettle on the clothes.

M.

Not sure exactly. I know there is a product called Mrs. Stewart's Bluing that is safe for HE and helps get whites white. You only use a small amount, so it is very very economical. You could also try washing soda, which is also cheap and safe. Or oxiclean. To rule out a weird change in water, you could wash a towel at a neighbors, or ask them if their laundry is grayer.

I would call their customer support and ask. I doubt it's anything with the washer, but they may know. Manuals don't cover everything. For example, I had to ask how full to load my HE when I first got it because that WASN'T in the book!!! I was glad I called because they said to only fill about 1/2 way so the laundry had room to tumble.

p.s. the water doesn't have to be full. The soaking and tumbling are the "magic" to the front load style of washing. When there is more soap, the washer rinses more to get the soap out. It has some way to measure the bubbles.

i'd suggest trying an extra rinse cycle.

We have a front loader HE so I really can't answer your question. Have you checked to see if there is a manual available to view online?
