Have You Used Mylicon Gas Drops?

I recently started giving my 3 week old Mylicon gas drops maybe once or twice a day, he gets upset after eating sometimes and it was reccomended to me by a couple of friends. we think it is gas, or a sensitive tummy but i have noticed that he falls asleep almost immediatley after i give it to him. I am not exceeding the dosage and the instructions say it can be used up to 12 times in 24 hours (im only using it 1 or 2) maybe it is just doing its job, but i wanted to see if anyone else had used it and what their outcome was!!

I used to a lot with my first born. It seems to help him a lot with gas. My second has more serious gas issues and it does nothing for it. I think it only helps lighter issues.

Hello C.. I have given it to all of my children, including my 11 week old. I haven't noticed any sleepiness, but maybe I just haven't put two and two together! lol I'll look out for it next time I give it to him, but I wouldn't worry about anything in relation to Mylicon, not saying you are worried. My outcome is that it does its job, very well :)

I agree with Susan. I also want to add that if your child is on formula, then you probably need a new formula. I recommend Earth's Best Organic. Almost every formula has some form of sugar. Sugar creates gas. Earth's Best is the only one I found that has ZERO sugar. BTW, I do not work for the company or benefit in any way. I just think it's terrible that babies are eating so much sugar right from the beginning.

Congratulations on your new baby!!!!!!

Hi C.,
We used Mylicon also when my son was little but then our Doula said to get Gripe Water. That seemed to work even better. However, I would give it only if your son had a problem, not automatically every day. Maybe check with the pediatrician on how often to give it.

Good luck!

Dear C.,
I swore by Mylicon. My best friends daughter was so gassy when she was born. She told me about Mylicon and as soon as My son was born I started using it. It worked! I also give it as gifts to expected parents. I swore by it! My son is almost 3 and I have never had a problem with him being gassy.
Good Luck!

OMG, That stuff is amazing. Whomever invented it should be sainted, knighted, then given a kingdom. I wish I'd had stock in it, because for my #2 of my three boys, I went through a ton of it. What a life saver! Colic, yikes. How I ever made it though THAT, is a miracle.

Hi C., try Gerber gas drops, that's what i have here, I haven't noticed them making the baby's drowsey, usually if it does make them drowsey its writin on the bottle, maybe he was ready to fall sleep anyways, and it just seems like he falls asleep after you give it to him. J.

Yep, Mylicaon worked great with my Son, and I would say the reason he is falling asleep is because his little tummy feels better. Always refer to your Doc, but I'd say you're fine!

Good luck and congratulations on your little man!

Are you feeding bottles of formula? My sis in law put the drops in the bottle to rid the bubbles and prevent the icky tummy. Maybe that will work (if u r using formula). I agree with some of the other mommies that said that he is probably tiring himself out so once he feels better he just wants to sleep. Maybe do the drops in the bottle during the day so he stays up a little bit and go ahead and do it seperately st night so it helps him sleep. Enjoy your new little guy!

I have with both of my boys, 3 1/2 and 18 months. It is completely harmless. Babies are gassy - the gas drops seem to help. I have never met a mother yet to tell me it hurts them. As far as the dosage, I think you are ok. If your baby goes to sleep afterward, his belly must feel better! Be happy that your baby is happy with the gas drops to help him! FYI, for the future with teething, there are organic teething tablets that work miracles!

I tried both Mylicon drops and Baby Bliss Gripe Water. The Mylicon didn't seem to work for my daughter, but the Gripe Water did and totally natural. The Gripe Water seemed to work in about 5 minutes and she was able to pass some gas and also become quite content. . .and if needing to go to sleep, then went to sleep.

Good luck. Stick with whatever works best for your baby. I found that for the first 6 weeks I needed the stuff for gas pains, and after that she started to get better at passing it herself and it wasn't as painful.

Wish I had known about it for my first daughter, instead we just dealt with an uncomfortable baby.

LOVE IT!!! It is a must have for new moms! I put a bottle in every shower gift. I asked the doctor if I was giving it too often (I followed the directions too) The doctor said it is as harmless as candy. Enjoy your new little boy!

Those drops didn't seem to do anything at all for my baby boy. He had such bad, painful gas until I finally switched to Nestle Good Start formula around week 6. Maybe your baby is sleepy because he's relieved and relaxed. It's great that the drops worked for him.

We used it for my son and it made all the difference. He always was crying and had a scowl on his face from his tummy hurting him but the Mylicon drops made him feel sooo much better. My Ped. told me that it is very mild.

Hi C.!

I used Mylicon gas drops after every feeding for my son. He had really bad stomach aches every time he ate. I ended up having to cut out all dairy from my diet. This helped, but not enough. If you want to see how the drops work, put a drop into water with soap suds, the bubbles clear up within seconds. Watching that, helped me understand how much it made my son feel better. Good luck!

I agree with everyone else. He's probably falling right to sleep because he's feeling better. It might help to know that Mylicon is not processed into the blood stream. It just does it job in the tummy. That's why it's ok to give them several times a day and you can't really overdose on it. (although I wouldn't exceed the maximum dosage). Congrats on the new baby!!

We used that for our daughter who had BAD gas problems & gas pains... she rarely farted or burped... and the Mylicon gas drops helped her a lot.... and yes, she felt better after and THEN could sleep.

Make sure you burp baby during feedings or after.... some babies take awhile to get their burps out... or rub his tummy in a gentle circular pattern over his tummy... or bicycle his legs. These things also helps.

A newborn does not have a fully developed digestive system yet... thus, they have gas problems or other things. Sometimes. Each baby being different.

If anything, ask your Pediatrician... If breastfeeding, sometimes, they also get gas problems from what the Mommy eats, and this goes into the breastmilk too, and can cause them pain/problems. So watch what you eat too.... and feed on demand. If using a bottle, make sure it is a bottle that does not accumulate air bubbles in the bottle as they drink... I found the "MAM" brand bottles to be super great! You can find it on www.amazon.com

Good luck,
Susan

I used it for my son, started at about 3 weeks and that continued from about 3 months. I think he had colic. He is 1 year old now and thankfully we haven't had to use them in at least 6 months. So personally I don't see anything wrong with using them if it is helping his poor little tummy feel better. Oh and I don't think the brand makes a difference we used them all. Good luck to you guys!

I don't know why, but my daughter had constant tummy problems for a while when she was little. Having Mylicon with me was a must. Like your little one she always feel asleep right after. I asked doc about it, and was told that it may not be the medicine itself, but the relief allows her to sleep. The tummy ache keeps her from sleeping that when she is finally able to get some relief she crashes hard. Hope this helps.

Good luck

I have used the Mylicon drops with my son when he was first born. I think they do work some dr.s say no. The baby will usually stop crying and go to sleep because they are so tired from crying and being in pain. One way to avoid gas in your baby in the first place is to watch what your eating and notice if you son gets fussy. for example when i drink milk my son gets really fussy. so dont worry as long as you follow the directions you are not overdosing, they are just doing thier job.
