My 12 year old son was just diagnosed with Abdominal Migraines. He has now missed 3 days of school and still doesn't feel well. Does anyone know anything about Abdominal Migraines? Do you know any Herbal remedies?
I've heard of them, just don't remember a whole lot. Try WebMD.com, and enter "abdominal migraines" in the search box. It will bring up a list of articles written by the medical community on what they are, and how best to treat them, including any herbal/alternative treatments that are deemed "safe".

My 2 yr old boy was recently diagnosed with these. I, as well as anyone else I ask, have not heard of these. It appeared like this. My husband, son, and I recently moved to the country. Since our relocation in April 2007, my son has been having episodes that last from 1 day to several days of vomiting and fever. (approx. 2-4 times a month) The pediatrician did multiple tests as well as ab. ultrasound and found nothing abnormal. She concluded that based on my "family history" of migraine, that it was abdominal migraine, and to treat symptoms accordingly. I now am wondering if it could be teething...but who knows. He has been sick constantly since we moved and was a very healthy child up to the move. We haven't had one of these episodes for about 1 month now and I'm crossing my fingers...the last one brought on a febrile seizure and a call to 911! I hope your son doesn't suffer too badly. Let me know if you find anything by way of remedy...

I'm sorry you're son is already suffering from migraine. These are miserable! I have had migraines for years, and my aunt has the abominal kind with vomiting.
I would suggest you use a combination of natural remedies with the migraine medications from the doctor. I live my life with a very natural approach, but migraine is so severe, Western pharmaceuticals truly are needed.
I have a few suggestions that have helped me:
1. Try and get your son on as many natural products as possible (soap, shampoo, etc...). I've done some reading about toxins in the products we use that build up in our systems. Some people just don't excrete these as well as others, which can cause various symptoms, including migraine. I've used Burt's Bees products, available at CVS.
2. Be careful with your use of plastics, particularly with heating or freezing food in plastics. Toxins from plastics can seep into food, and again, these impact some folks worse than others.
3. Try having him drink aloe juice and/or chamomile tea. These help the body cleanse itself.
4. For medication, he'll probably need to use pain meds by trial and error with your doctor. Something over the counter that's helped me is the non-drowsy version of Dramamine (main ingredient: Meclazine). I take 1-2 with a basic pain killer (for me, this combined with Aleve works well). This helps me with both the nausea and the pain.
I truly hope these things help. Please don't discount pharmaceuticals altogether in this situation. He needs to have relief in order to get on with his life. This truly is a condition that's debilitating while the migraine is happening.
