We moved into our house when my son was one month old but between work, spending time with my family, and keeping up with housework, I STILL have a lot of organizing to do! Has anyone used a professional organizer to help with closets, utilizing space, creating filing system, etc. If so, was it worth it? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks.

I am a house keeper. I do house cleaning, organizing, etc. I have organized peoples homes before, and it stayed that way for the time being, but eventually got un-organized again, so they had hired me again! I now do things differently! I go and organize everything then I follow up either weekly, or bi- monthly to keep up. I have clients through all of their papers in a basket, hidden in a cupboard, etc. Then when I come, I go through all of it with them, and reduce it.

My thoughts on the whole orgnizing thing.... it is really a waste of money because you still have to spend the time with the person to tell them what to do with the stuff!

I would recommend this....
You should invest in a house keeper instead. This way, all of your house keeping will be done which leaves you more time to organize things the way you would like them to be!

I also live in Saint Paul and I have references available if you are interested in my services.

Depending on the size of your house, cleaning averages about $15.00 an hour. I can also organize things too!

I have to agree with the first response at the bottom. flylady.net I have been a fly baby now for 4 1/2 years. Set your timer for 15 minutes, then on to the next zone. Also when you sign up (free) on the website, you will get daily email reminders, and testimonials that people write in, which have been very helpful, inspirational and motivating.

I used one when I was getting ready to move and was pregnant - I needed help to "stage" the house. It was worth it.

Take care,

Yes, I am currently using one. Stacie Campion, you can contact her at ____@____.com or ###-###-####. She is AWESOME! She is working on our whole house. I cannot believe some of the changes this has made, in our entire life. She sees things differently than I do, better than I do. She can walk into a room and instantly know what will work for me and my family. What she does in an hour would take me all day! I am constantly amazed with her ideas and her skills. She is wonderful, I HIGHLY recommend her!

My best friend used a professional organizer in 2 different houses she owned. She loved the idea and organization but it only works if you continually put things away. And there is always the part where some things just are not put where u want them and you change stuff.. I personally suggest getting a babysitter for a couple days and just goin to town on your own. I moved into my new house with 3 kids in August. And had everything put together within 3 days. No help. So trust me you can do it. Just don't get distracted. And what's 2 days away from your family out of 18 years. And you will be more comfortable in your home.

I have used the same one over about 7 years - Terri O'Dowd. I need it as get stuck in areas. I do pretty well for awhile and then get stuck in another area or room, etc. She's even helped with our terrible yucky basement at our previous home and our garage. What I love about Terri is that she assists and give you tools tailored around your personal organization strengths. Like, I am attached to things (hate throwing them away) and am a visual person. Makes for a pretty visually ugly mess. :) But she used tools with visual ques or things I can use that make it super easy for me to let it be out-of-sight but not out-of-mind and easy to find. We both got down and dirty on a basement that had been bad for years. I have even brought her into my business office for some help.
Her phone is ###-###-#### and her email is ____@____.com. I don't know how her rates compare because she's worth my investment when I need her and she gets it done and the help sticks. That's the value I find.
Good luck.

Hi My sisters friend just getting started in the organizing business. She just helped my sister & she said that is helped alot. I plan on having her over in the next couple of weeks. I believe her fees are pretty reasonable. I don't have her info right now but if you are interested please e-mail me ____@____.com & I will get you the #. Also I just finished a book Sink Reflections & joined the www.flylady.net web-site. It all about getting yourself & your house organized & clean & staying that way. It has helped me so far.

I know how it feels to be unorganized. It drives me crazy!

Good luck!!

I was a professional organizer before I decided to stay home full time with my two children last year. There are several great organizers in the area, and while my opinion certainly is biased, it is well worth the money--they can help you reduce stress, save money, and find your stuff! Depending on your needs, they generally start with an assessment to get you started. You then generally have the option to take it from there on your own or work regularly or ocassionaly with the organizer. Fees range $50-$100/hour in the metro area; some do bid by project. To find an organizer, I'd recommend visiting www.napominnesota.com--these are local organizers that are members of the National Association of Professional Organizers. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions!
