okay i was taking 100 mg generic for zoloft (anti-depressent meds) and protonix (which is an acid reflux meds). i was on both of those medicines for a while probably 3 or more months and just recently i cold turkey quit taking both. i stop taking them for many of reasons like our insurance changed and nobody really saw that they where really helping me, and some other reasons. but my question is that ever since i stopped taking them i have felt like kinda nausea and dizziness. i am not really a very good eater and i thought that was maybe my problem but really i am trying to get down to the bottom of why for the past week i have been having this feeling of kinda little zaps in my head its sooo sooo weird. has anyone ever had this problem or know why i am feeling this way??? i kinda feel like i am going to have this dizziness and stuff forever. any answers would be very helpful thanks :)

You are going through withdrawl. Plain & simple. Drink a lot of water. Don't drive. Should be better by the end of next week.

I have had these symptoms when I quit takig Paxil years ago, they are weird. It is a seretonin withdrawl and mine went away in about 2 weeks or so...a little better every day. Good luck!

You cannot just stop taking zoloft. You need to gradually wean off the medication, you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Please call your doctor for proper procedure for stopping the zoloft. Just stopping can result in uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms or serotonin syndrome.

1. you are not to ever cold turkey an anti depressant meds. you are to wean off of them. 2. you may need to try a different med. not all will work for you. when i dont take my pill (celexa) for depression i get the same way.
i would suggest talking with your dr and seeing what you have coverage for. as far as the reflux meds i cant help you there except to maybe try an over the counter med.

Check with your doctor to see how you need to proceed in order to stop taking your meds. I made the mistake of quitting my thyroid meds without telling a doctor and I was dizzy and passing out. It lasted for several months before I felt better. I found out later that quitting my meds, cold turkey, was a big no-no...OOPS! Call your doc right away. Good luck to you!

Those medicines throw your body out of balance and sometimes the body doesn't shift back to it's normal regulation when you quit the meds. You may want to work with some nutritional supplements to help get things back to normal for your body. B vitamins, a good magnesium-calcium supplement, zinc, iodine, omega-3 fatty acids, tryptophan, probiotics and digestive enzymes could all be helpful. Also having some energy healing therapies like acupuncture or reiki can get your energy system back in balance.

You CANNOT stop zoloft cold turkey!!!! You need to wean yourself off that. Call your dr. immediately to see what he can do. Maybe he can give you samples to do this. Do not wait.

Stopping anti-depressants cold turkey can be dangerous. You need to have professional assistance on getting weaned off of the drug.

The "zaps" you are experiencing are normal and consistant to this and can get worse, other symptoms can include: anxiety attacks, cold sweats, dizziness even more depressive and thoughts of injuring oneself can result from stopping without properly weaning.

Have you looked into the side effects of the prescriptions? Also, sometimes stopping certain meds cold turkey can leave you with withdrawal symptoms, which is what it sounds like to me.

Really you have had all the answers out there. You should NEVER quit cold turkey on any kind of brain altering medications. About 7 years ago I wanted off my tranquillizers. I gradually reduced the dose over about a month and STILL had horrible side effects. I turned to my local alternative health center for help (in CA they are widely available). She gave me supplements and it definitely helped. Mine was for financial reasons too (husband left us).

I was on zoloft also, and my doctor told me not to just stop taking it that you have to go off of it in increments. My advice would be to call your doctor.

my husband was on anxiety/depressant meds and he quit cold turkey also w/o dr. approval bc he didn't see results and was actually getting worse. anyways you are supposed to wean yourself off of them. i called a pharmacist. said to half the pills for a week and then half every other day for a week. sounds like withdrawal symptons. but really i get those feelings also and i haven't been on meds b4. i am always dizzy and get the head things too. i've had my blood checked and everything was ok. you might have vertigo, too.

I don't know much about about the protonix, but I do know that nausea and dizziness are definite side effects when you stop a anti-depressant cold turkey! I know that when insurance gets in the way, it is really difficult. I battle with depression too, and I've been without insurance. I found a drug study for depression meds in my area and I was able to enter into that program and receive free anti-depressants for 15 months. By that time, I was able to find insurance again and the psychologist running the drug study wrote me a Rx for my new med. Hope that helps.

I'm A registered nurse first of all, I will tell you that all the symptoms you are explaining of having is caused by stopping your Zoloft cold turkey. You can't do that with anti-depressants, it will make you feel very sick and yes it will make you have those so called zaps you say your having. You need to slowly wean yourself off of it. Also you need to ask yourself why you were on it to begin with. Eventually it will go away if you do decide not to go back on it but, you will feel sick for a while. How long is hard to tell everyone is different and also it depends on the dose you were on if on a high or low dose. Hope this helped!!!

You are not supposed to stop taking Zoloft "cold Turkey" You are to taper off. The other thing is that Zoloft can help with Vertigo.
Could be you are suffering from Vertigo. Also do you ever have migraines?

This dizziness can be a side effect. I think you should call your doctor, just to make sure it does not get worse and you hurt yourself. I had some dizziness at one point and totally fell out of my shower almost hitting my head on the sink 2 times, before I realized how dangerous it was.

Quitting an anti-depressant cold turkey = weird zaps in your head, nausea, dizziness etc. Honestly, going from 100mg to nothing I'm a surprised you're still functioning well enough to type, I weaned myself off bit by bit and was barely functional for at least one day out of every dosage drop. Please consider talking to a doctor.

Well this might work:

Magneisum citrate daily, and rub magnesium oil on your skin also. magnesium is suppose to help with zaps, tingles, depression, confusion, headaches, insomnia, nausea, and it is also suppose to help make serotonin. Vit b5 and 5-htp are suppose to also help make serotonin.
What many antidepressants do is increase serotonin. Forcing the body into an increased serotonin level can make the body dependant on it. now your body is not only in withdrawal, but also has gotten used to not having to produce as much on it's own since it was brought in artificially

. I think those supps listed above can help.
Along with them, cod liver oil would be good. Alot of people use omega 3-6-9 for SSRI withdrawal. Cod liver oil has the omegas that you need along with a good amount of vit A. Ginger root can also help for nausea.

You are not supposed to go off anti depressants without your doctor helping you with it. Usually the dosages have to be adjusted so you don't put your body into some sort of shock/withdrawal. I would call your doctor and explain what you have done. There is no need to feel miserable like you are describing.

Well, stopping meds like that cold turkey can produce some bad side effects - all those should be gradually eased on to and off of - my guess is that is what is going on - that you're getting some symptoms of withdrawal - over time they should ease up - but I don't know what those meds will do when you stop them like that - you may want to contact a doctor if you can or a pharmacist or just look online...

Unfortunately you can't just stop taking anti-depressents cold turkey. You needed to titrate the usage down. I have family members and friends that have stopped as you did and experienced exactly the same things...little zaps and the dizziness like vertigo. It eventually went away for them but it may be worth consulting a doctor.

These are symptoms of withdrawal. Take it easy, rest up, and try not to drive. Sit down as much as you can or you will feel like you will pass out. I have gone through it a few times as I was switching or quitting anti-depressants and some have worse withdrawal symptoms than others. You may want to find another medication that works for you or get your dosage adjusted if the Zoloft's not working for you and you still feel like you need it.

Dear A.,
I hope that you have not taken yourself off these meds without first speaking to your Dr. The one who perscribed them...that Dr. If you read the literature that comes with most of these anti-depresents, it is very dangerous to go off them cold turkey...as in with some of them, you could die without physician assistance. Some of them may require hospitalization to go off them...Please call your Dr. Right Away!!!
