Hardwood Floors - Steam Mop

Hey moms.. I just recently bought a Bissell steam mop. I think I like it, seems to clean really well and I love that its chemical free. But, the problem I have is that it is leaving a white haze in some areas of the hard wood floors in our home. How do I prevent this? How do I get the hardwood floors to have somewhat of that shine look? Help
Thanks!

I really don't think steam mops and hardwood floors are compatible. I think you are probably raising the grain in the wood with the moisture or trapping moisture between the wood and finish. I would not use steam on a hardwood floor. I've been in the flooring business for many years and this seems like common sense to me. Tile and other hard surfaces, yes, but not hardwood.

My steam mop did the same thing. I think it is residue from what you used to clean your floors in the past. It goes away after using your steam mop a few times.

It sounds like there may be some seepage between the layer of varnish and the wood... Yes, it may be that its the water your using, or residue from before... But keep your eyes on it... You may be slowly stripping off the sealer...

One thought - though I like the other explanation too. Are you using distilled water or tap water? I use distilled and get no residue - tap may leave minerals behind.
