My daughter is turning one this month and the grandparents are asking what they should get her. What do your one-year-olds like to play with? Is there a toy they have that they play with more than others?
Any ideas are appreciated!!
How about a small pretend kitchen. My daughter is 7 and has had hers for awhile. She has a nice size one but they have some smaller ones. My nephew has one and he is almost two and loves it.. It keeps him busy when I get to keep him. They also have the little aprons and hats that are too cute..
When my daughter turned one, my MIL gave her an adorable bunny chair. I believe she bought it at Pottery Barn Kids. It is a great size, and she still (she's 2 now) loves to sit in it to read, watch occasional tv, etc. It is a plush chair, and has been a great "toy", useful item. You might also ask the Grandparents to consider buying her "lessons" of some sort. For example: music classes, gymboree, swimming, little gym, etc. That might be something of use that you could do with her. A lot of these places have classes on the weekends, since you're working during the week. Check out www.musictogetherdallas.com. I highly recommend them!
My daughter has a fisher price picnic table that lights up with everything you touch and plays different kinds of songs. Its so cute and she LOVES it especially at night when its dimmed and the lights are bright. It was only 20 dollars at Toys R Us and I had bought it on a sale where it was buy a fisher price toy 20 dollars and up and get another fisher price toy free so it was a good deal.
My son loved the little people sets around that age. There is also a new set (not sure who makes it) called My First Dollhouse that I got for my god-daughter that has bigger pieces for little hands, if you think she might like that. Since it's summer maybe they could get her a wading pool or sandbox or fun sprinkler. Maybe get her a baby stroller and new babydolls, they also have baby nursery sets that look exactly like Graco and Fisher-Price sets. Hope this helps.
My son loved the Busy Ball Popper, and still loves it to this day! (He is 3!) You can get it at Toys R Us and is only about $20! I usually always give it as a gift for a one year old's birthday....they all love it!
My grandparents either contribute to our Son's college fund or get him a Savings Bond. It's a yearly tradition for them and I think it's an EXCELLENT way for our son to eventually know how much his great-grandparents valued education (since by the time my son is going to college, they won't be around anymore).
I really tried to discourage anyone from buying toys for my son for his first 3 birthdays... Christmas is enough. kids have so many toys as it is...
Hi L.! My son will turn 1 this summer and I have asked his grandparents to keep in mind fun things we can do together outside as a family (and fewer toys in my house!) including a tree swing, a small picnic table, a wading pool, a sandbox, and a wagon. My friend's little girl just turned 1 and they got her the Fischer Price kitchen and she LOVES it!! Enjoy her 1st bday!
