A lot of the schools don't have a troop established because of lack of kids. Currently, our elementary doesn't have a troop for K, so we had to combine with another school. I just signed my daughter up for girl scouts by contacting someone at the Northeast Texas council. The woman I contacted is listed below:

Celes Bedford
Membership Services
Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas
6001 Summerside Dr. Dallas, TX. 75252

Hope this helps!

the easiest way to find out info is to go to your local scout council webpage and see what troop would be near you. it's worth the effort!

Adrienne is right, they did fairly well with the cub scouts at my childrens' gradeschool and I don't remember if they even had the girlscouts or campfire girls.

Go to the website and check with local churches. Most of the groups I have run into are hosted by a church. Our church has a troup and one of the neighborhood churches hosted the cub scouts when my son was involved.

Sorry for the late response, I just saw your post...My daughters school hasnt had any issues handing out flyers, but if your school doesnt hand them out you can contact the local girl scouts service unit and they should be able to tell you if there are any troops in your area. Im not sure where you are located, but here in the North TX website: http://www.gsnetx.org/
They were very helpful when I signed my daughter up for brownies (this is her first year with brownies). Good luck!

I know that we got a flier last week about a county-wide meeting for Denton to give information about the scouts. My daughters are already in a troop at school that was formed by a mom who just decided "let's get all of our kids together so they can make a lasting bond"... she went to the meetings in
Dallas and started the troop. There are several troops at our school, and they have all formed that way... close knit groups of people who pick who they want to invite. If your child has a close circle of friends, then i'd go that route... just spread the word at school. If not, then the info. is definitely out there. Our school tends to be a bit more lax and open.

Liabilty issues. More and more districts are distancing themselves from scouting and other programs. Also school clubs are getting harder to offer for safety/liabilty issues.
