I have a friend whose water broke this past week and she is only 24 weeks along, she is being kept at the hospital and is limited to movement, she mostly has to rest. I feel very helpless being that she is in California and I am here in Texas and am going thru a high risk pregnancy myself. I want to fly there and be with her but that is not possible. One of our other friends is flying out to see her and I was hoping to send a gift with her. Problem is I have no clue what to send, I already sent flowers. I am scared to send something for the baby for fear that something may happen. I really want to send something for her but I have no ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions, or maybe someone has gone through this and could tell me what they would have liked?? Thanks for any ideas!!

What can I do next?

Why don't you send her some books, magazines, body lotion, or send flowers through 1-800-Flowers? I wouldn't send anything for the baby. Send something to make her feel good about herself during this stressful time. Good luck!

Anything to keep her busy. Books, magazines, even a hand held electronic game or two. Maybe some sinful chocolates or anything else that might make her pampered and relaxed. Also, lip gloss and lotions in small bottles are nice when your are layed up. The hospital always seems to make you dry.

Since her water broke they will probably deliver the baby soon. Every day in the womb counts as a plus for the baby, so they are trying... but the broken water is a big risk for infection. Lik ethe other moms advised you... magazines are great, all kind of different ones, so she can switch her mind lets say from decorating to gossip. Maybe a "preemie baby diary" would be as well good? Once the baby will be delivered they can note every milesstone or problem the baby is going through. I have seen a NICU Diary that was a pretty good one at www.preemie.com

Being that she is on bed rest, I was in hospital for 6 weeks when I was pregnant and could not get out of bed. so I needed tolitries that I could use in the bed, like always sanitary wipes, body lotion, dvd's maybe you could get a few of her favorite movies, a phone card for long distance calls from hospital, some board games were good for me, or card games even. snacks, or have someone come and give her a mani and pedi in the hospital. wish her the best and just be supportive, she is sad, scared and she is going to be home sick. you might also get an ipod for her if she does not have one and fill it with her favorite songs and some movies from itunes... just a thought, that would have been cool when I was there.
