My almost 3 year old recently switched from crib to twin bed - and now she has started getting up in the middle of the night, turning on the light, getting changed and playing -at like 3AM!!! Does anyone know what to do about this? Thanks in advance :]

What can I do next?

Try putting a clock/radio/CD player in her room with the wake-up set to whatever time you think is appropriate for her to awaken to soft music. Then tell her that she has to stay in bed with the lights out until she hears the music.

If she's just switched to a bigger bed, it might be that she wakes because she doesn't feel the "snugglieness" of the crib, so you might try putting some pillows on either side of her in the twin bed--or big snuggly stuffed animals.

Best of luck.

We had the same problems with each of my kids, who were excellent sleepers, when we moved them to beds. They didn't get up and play, but instead came into our room. We have cealing fans in our rooms, so I just pulled the string at the lamp so that it could not be controlled by the switch. You have to discipline yourself to get up and put them back in bed when they get up, easier said then done when your half asleep and exhausted. She will learn to stay in her bed if you keep putting her back, but it will take a commitment from you. Good luck.

What we did was to get our son a digital clock and show him/tell him what time he was allowed to get up. But he was older than 3. I'd let her use the bathroom, pee, etc. and put her back into her bed. Have you tried playing a soothing CD in her room for her? Do you have room darkening shades at her window(s). Sorry--that's all I've got. Good luck.

First, make sure she's exercising a LOT during the day, getting some sunlight, and not eating any sugar past noon-even natural sugar, grapes, juice etc. Make sure she's eating lots of food durinig the day, so she's not hungry during the night-sometimes a slightly rumbly stomach is all it takes to wake them up. Also, don't let her drink right before bed, peeing a little or having to can wake her up.

The key is letting her know it's not allowed when you walk in and she's playing. Give her a few warnings and then a consequence every time she does it. No need for multiple warnings once you've been through it the first night and she continues to do it on subsequent nights. Tell her nicely to get back in bed and stay there, and give her a consequence if she doesn't. She probably lulled herself back to sleep fine when she was in bars, but now you have to teach her not to get out of bed. Good luck!
