Gestational Diabetes - Plainfield,IL

Just curious how many women had Gestational Diabetes and went on to deliver vaginally. I had GD with my daughter and they took her early and she still weighed 8’7. I’m only 5’0, but her delivery was not that bad. However, it has been 8 years and I’m due in April and I have GD again. When I delivered my son though I tore horribly and he was only 7’11. I sat on a donut for two weeks.lol It was well worth it though.

I think that I’m just getting a little nervous because it is coming up fast and I’m already measuring two weeks ahead. I have a different OB this time for high risk so I’m just trying to mentally prepare for the big day. He did suggest possibly inducing me a week early since I'm planning on getting my tubes tied.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies for your personal stories. My doctor was explaining that with each pregnancy the baby could be bigger. With my last daughter coming over 2 weeks early and still weighing 8’7 I’m just nervous more about the baby being okay and not so much myself. The strange thing with my last daughter was that I was not even measuring that big.
I have been able to keep the diabetes under control with diet. I check my glucose levels four times a day and it has been under control.
I guess I just needed to vent my concerns. Thanks for listening.

I had GD with my son; it was controlled through diet (I did The Zone diet for the rest of my pregnancy) and had a home birth. Minor tearing, 7lbs 10 oz.
I'm 4'11.5", too!

I had GD with my second. Doctor scheduled me for an induction the Monday before my due date, but baby decided to come the prior Thursday, one week before my due date. He was 7.11 and I delivered vaginally, no complications. Good Luck!!

I had it, it was managed by diet. My son was 7.7 and I had very little tearing. The size of the baby makes a difference for tearing obviously, but so does the speed of the delivery and the OB's commitment to help you not tear. If the baby comes fast, there's no time to for the area to stretch so it tears. If the labor is longer, it can stretch more rather than tear. And if your OB is aware of helping it not tear, the OB can stretch the area as well. Talk to your OB about this specific fear and ask what he does to help in some way to prevent it.

I have three friends that had GD and had natural vaginal births. It has more to do with your Doctor than with anything else.

Since you mentioned your height, I will share mine...4' 11". I did not have GD w/ my son. He was 7 lb 15 1/2 oz and I delivered vaginally. Yes, I tore too. With my daughter I had GD and also delivered vaginally (about 6 days before my "due date"). She was 6 lb 11 oz...no problems.

I did. My first child, I had to give myself 3 shots a day. He weighed 7.5 lbs. My second child, I did not have it, but he weighed in at 6.66 lbs. Both natural vaginal delivery. You will be fine. You have to psych yourself up for it and keep a positive attitude about it. Good luck.

I had GD with my second, probably with my first. Terrible taring. 2nd was not near as bad. I am also 5 feet tall. My first was 9lb 2 oz and broke his collar bone being delivered. He was a week late.

Don't resist an early delivery. Make sure they have a good grip on how big this baby will be!

I had GD with my third. The OB was going to induce me at 39 weeks because I was also measuring two weeks ahead. I went into labor on my own at 38 weeks (after requesting to have my membranes stripped) and the baby weighed 8 lbs. 11 oz. He would have been much bigger and probably a c section if I'd gone the full 40 weeks.

I would go with the induction a week early!
