E.G. asks from Aurora, IL

I would like recommendations for an honest dentist in the Naperville/Aurora area. My current dentist wants to take bite-wings every six months and continues to ask if I want my silver fillings replaced with "white" fillings. I'm starting to feel sales pressure!

What can I do next?

Fairview Dental on Sullivan and Rt. 31 across from Provena Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora. Very nice place, friendly staff. I have been going for 2 years now and have no problems what so ever. My husband and inlaws have also switched over.

I have been going to Young Dental Care for years. Dr Young who started the office has been a friend of my dads for a very long time. When he passed away his daughter Kim Young took over. She is wonderful. I listed the address for you below. I hope this helps!

he's not exactly right next to you, but he's close and definately worth the drive. we go to Dr. Jay Zavolnek in Lisle. he used to be a dental professor down at UofI, so he's very nice to work with. he tells you everything that's going on with your mouth, and he actually LIKES the silver fillings because they don't shrink away from your teeth. (i actually opted to have silver ones last time, and he was very excited!)
he's realistic about money. my husband's mouth needed 8 cavities filled and 3 root canals, and as long as we mailed them what we could afford, they were happy. he even would see us for our next visits 6 months later without making us pay everything in full. as long as he gets that payment.

we moved to batavia, and my husband just recently went to a dentist out here. the guy must have seen gold in his mouth because he wanted to do 3 root canals, crowns and posts and handed my husband a credit application. he called me saying he felt like he went to a used car salesman, so he went back to dr zavolnek. they're working with his mouth and our wallet. he knows we can't afford to get it all done at once. they fixed the teeth that needed to be fixed, and we're monitoring the other ones. he said "no sense in getting rid of teeth that we can make work for us!"

i HIGHLY suggest him. he's the greatest!

I can sympathize with you on the issue with your dentist. It's difficult to find a dentist you trust. I have gone through several dentists myself, since I moved to this area. You can refuse the x-rays, it is your right. Most dental insurance will pay for them every 6-months that's why the dentist wants to take them. They really only need to take them every 2 years to keep your records current. I found dentists are really pushing to replace silver fillings. It's an easy money maker. Be cautious. If they have the technology to photograph your fillings (as my current dentist did)and show them to you, you will be able to see if they are leaking and really need replacement or not. If it's just for cosmetic reasons, I'd say don't do it. I had one filling replaced and I had to cover some of the cost. I go to Tall Grass Dental on 103rd in South Naperville. Be direct and let them know up front what you are/are not willing to do. Good luck!
