Gassy Baby - Phoenix,AZ

Everyone always comments on how gassy my son is. He doesn't have any issues with being cranky or anything like that. What is normal? He is on Breast Milk only and during the week I take fenugreek. I'm thinking this may be the issue. Please leave me your thoughts.

I'm starting to get irritated with the daycare lady constantly telling me how gassy he is.

What can I do next?

It could be from the Fenugreek.. Ignore her, you are her boss keep that in mind.

Every child is different.. do not compare.. He is happy, eating & thriving.. who needs anything else.

Is he gassy with you? If not .. change bottles.. we had to do that with my son, but he was a fussy gassy kid.. it was the bottles not what I was eating.

It's more about what you eat than anything else. If what you are eating gives you gas it will give the baby gas. I had to stop eating anything with onions, green peppers, chili, cabbage, even broccoli ect.

It would help to know how old the baby is.

Get some gas drops and give him some after he eats and see if it makes a difference. I had to give it to both my boys.

Oftentimes, if baby is very gassy, it's because he's not being burped properly.

Be sure you burp him firmly. Harder than you think he needs it. If you're worried about pounding his little back, try firmly patting his bottom on the diaper. Also, don't just get one burp and be done with it. Burp for a good 5 minutes or so to get all that air.

Also, be sure that the bottle is being held so he's not getting a bunch of air.

Best!

I don't remember whether or not my daughter was gassy with fenugreek, but you could try a different herb to test it out. Are you eating a lot of gassy foods like broccoli, beans, asparagus?

I really DON'T think its the fenugreek! I think its what you're eating...mexican food, onions, broccolli, chocolate, beans, cabbage will all do it, plus good burping will help. Some babies are more sensitive to foods over others, dairy can also be the culprit. Just watch your foods and see what ones are worse for him than others!

My daycare provider used to always tell me how gassy my son was too. The kid's at daycare would all be laughing because he "tooted" so often, they thought it was really funny and I'm sure it was.

I breastfed and gave my son some formula. It's great that he's able to pass gas through his system easily, otherwise you'd have a constipated fussy baby and that's no fun at all. I never did, or felt the need to do anything about it. He was in no discomfort over it and in time, as he got closer to a year it just stopped.

Hopefully the daycare provider is just telling you about it, not complaining about it. He sounds like a perfectly healthy normal baby.
