Does anyone know the weight when you can turn your baby's car seat forward? I heard it was changing to a larger weight.

What can I do next?

It's at least 12 months old AND at least 20 lbs. Not whichever comes first but once they meet both minimums. However, it is safer to keep them facing backwards as long as possible. If I am not mistaken, it has something to do with strength in their neck. The longer you keep them backwards, the better. Mine stayed backwards until they were 14 or 15 months and 23 lbs or so. I could have gone longer but chose not to.

The AAP has revised its original recommendations and now recommends that you keep your babies in a rear facing carseat until they are two years of age MINIMUM. To ensure they are safe, please flip that carseat around, and keep it that way until they exceed the limits of the carseat, 35-40 pounds depending on the carseat.

usually it depends on the carseat, but I know most are between 20-25 pounds ( & 1 y r old). a carseat check specialist once told us to leave them rear facing for as long as possible, up to 2 yrs, that we are the only country who turns them around so quick. it is safest for them to be rear facing. But, w/ that said, if their legs are long & start to look cramped, it's also a good idea to turn them around (if they are over 20 lbs.) we always wait w/ our kids till about 15 months, we pushed them as long as we could. good luck!

I have heard at least 20 lbs and 1 year old but that they were raising it. My 3rd child is now 7mon old and is 22lbs and long... I don't think I can wait until he is 2 as his legs would go up the back of the seat and probably 'fall asleep' due to loss of blood in them. I would keep a child facing back for as long as you could though along with keeping them comfortable.
