Hi Mama's
We are flying to Boston from Chicago next week, and then driving up to cape cod...Very excited :-) with our 14month son, we wanted to take our regular stroller as he naps and is overall more comfortable in that than his umbrella stroller, my question is will American Airlines let me check that at the gate? even though the website suggests umbrella? We have a Uppababy stroller which folds quite well... has anyone taken a regular stroller and been turned away..then what? or will it be fine?
Thanks for all your help mamas and have a great relaxing Memorial Day weekend!

What can I do next?

I flew on two airlines (United and another I can't remember) they took my regular size stroller at the gate without any problems. I think it should be fine but I would just call to make sure.

I use to work for American Airlines last year. YES you can gate check any stroller at the gate. You can even gate check your carseat, too. After you land they bring it back up to the jetbridge for you.

Hope this helps!

you should have no problems checking it at the gate. just don't act like there will be a problem. go to the counter and tell them you want to check it...don't ask. have fun!

Hi, my sister is in Boston so my son and I fly there often to visit from Chicago. We have never had a problem with American checking either of our strollers at the gate (they are actually pretty friendly about helping with everything, could have been too cause I was by myself). Can I suggest too that you bring a portable DVD player? That always works wonders for us. The flight is so short that I pop in a movie for him and by the time the movie is over we are about there. Good luck!

We have flown with my son twice. The first time we took an umbrella stroller the second time we didn't take a stroller at all. No problems checking the stroller with United. When we flew with SouthWest last month, there were people checking a double stroller at the gate. They didn't have a problem either. Just to be safe you should call American and find out, but it should be fine. Have a wonderful trip!
