I would NOT do this...it just would make you nuts if you didn't detect a heart beat...just enjoy being pregnant and do not go out and buy one...especially if you or your husband is NOT a technician....just enjoy!!!

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would want one. My experience is even the good ones suck, my OB used to have to use the ultrasound to get a heartbeat nearly every time he tried. The other thing is say you can't find a heartbeat and you are sure it isn't broke. What good is that information?
I agree with Cheryl, it will drive you nuts.

I have a hospital grade fetal doppler, I found it at a second hand baby store, I couldn't believe my luck! I looked up this model online, and they sell new for over a thousand dollars!! I think, with my store credit and a gift card, I spent like $8 on it!!
Hope all is well and that you only need it for fun :)

Do you need this for medical reasons or just curiosity? I'm only asking b/c the doctors and nurses had the hardest time finding my son's heartbeat every single time we went. His placenta attached at the front, so it just didn't work out easily. They had to push and dig and I held my breath every month.
If you really want a hospital grade monitor, call a medical supply store in your area. They will be your best resource as to where you can rent/buy a dopplar. You could also call the hospital where you plan to deliver. If you need this for a medical reason, they may loan one to you or help you go through your insurance.

I purchased one at the store when I was pregnant with my first 10 years ago and it worked just fine.
I don't know where you could rent one try doing a google search for your area.
Lots of childrens consignment shops sell maternity items maybe check around and see if anyone has a better quality one for sale. And check craigslist while your at it.

I had one I bought from Walmart that worked great...I was ALWAYS able to find my daughter's heartbeat (which did save me a lot of worry, b/c at the end of my pregnancy she didn't move a lot, so my doctor's were ok with me using that instead of kick counts)...However, I think the reason she was so easy to find was because I knew what position she was in at all times (my OB showed me how to feel for her feet and spine, etc.) and my daughter stayed in the same position almost all the time (head down and her back was on my left side with her feet right under my right rib cage)...Maybe if they can show you that, then you will know how to wake your baby up (I would tickle my daughter's feet)

I rented mine from BabyBeat when I was pregnant. I know you're not looking for an online place, but I'm sure it came very quickly after I requested it. It worked very well and gave me great peace of mind! I never had trouble finding my babies' heartbeats.
