I am 41 year old and recently suffered my second miscarriage at 10 weeks. My husband and I want to try again. I have used clearblue easy ovulation kits in the past with miminal sucess. I was considering a fertility monitor maybe clearblue easy but they are really expensive. I was wondering if any of you have had any expirence with them and if one is better than the other? They are looking to run 150.00 to 200.00. I guess I am wondering if they are worth the investment! Thanks in advance...

What can I do next?

Before spending money on fertility monitors, I would highly recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler. I was amazed at how much I learned about myself by reading the book (things they SHOULD have taught you in Jr High Health class) and have recommended it to numerous friends who have been similarly amazed. It teaches you to do fertility charting and learn about your cycle. It is a heck of a lot cheaper than a fertility monitor and more informative! I got pregnant during my 1st month of charting using the book (as did several friends!)

Hi N.--Sorry about your miscarriage. It's a tough thing to have to go through and I can totally sympathize with you. I have the CBEFM and ended up pregnant the first month of using it. Unfortunately, I miscarried but the monitor did work. I've been using it since and I highly recommend it as it takes the guesswork out of figuring out when you're ovulating. I know that the monitor is reliable because I have been taking Clomid and doing IUI's the past 4 months. Well, the past 2 months I've gotten a mid-level reading earlier than normal. Went into the RE and had them do an ultrasound follicle scan and sure enough I had follicles that were ready to go. This reassured me that the machine really works. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten pregnant again since last May but that's not any fault of the monitor. Costco online sells them cheaper than anywhere I've seen so you may want to check that out. Good luck!

If you have regular cycles, I strongly recommend the clearblue fertility monitor. It is wonderful, it will show you not only the days which you are ovulating but also the few days prior to ovulation, increasing your chances of conception. I have used one and it worked great for me. Totally worth the money. But your cycles must be regular, otherwise the monitor won't work... Combining the monitor with clomid is a very powerful tool when it comes to TTC! Good luck and let us know. God bless!

I agree with Lauren and highly recommend Taking Charge of your Fertility also. (i was 39 when I used it) I borrowed it from a friend and decided to try without a fertility monitor first. It is cheaper to buy the book and I believe is even more accurate as is takes into account more variables in your own cycle. I became pregnant after the first month of charting also. It also puts you in tune with your body, probably things we should know anyway. Try it before spending the money on an expensive kit. So happy my friend recommend it to me! Good luck!
