Feeding and Naps

My 5 month old daughter is on a pretty regular schedule. She eats about 6 oz. every four hours (4 feedings/day totally 24 oz/24 hrs) with a nap that starts about 2 hrs. after each feeding. The morning nap is usually 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. w/ the afternoon nap lasting about 2 hours. My concern is that sometimes the afternoon nap is so long she ends up w/ only 3 feedings in the day (18 oz/24 hrs). It happened today and that's the second time in the last two weeks. She's been sick recently so I wasn't too worried, but she was pretty much back to normal and it happened today. Should I be worried?

What can I do next?

No worries! Missed feedings will happen! As long as she continues to gain weight, there is no problem. As she gets older, she will drop feedings on her in this very way. I can remember going from 5 to 4 to 3 to 2... The first year is a constant change! Enjoy her naps!!

I think what you have is new mom jitters I wouldn't worry about her sleeping through her meals. She'll make up for sooner or later. Babies tend to sleep through their meals...She'll eat when she's hungry
Enjoy that baby..It goes by quickly,Oh by the way enjoy those naps too .

Good luck

I wouldn't worry about any missed feedings. If your daughter is hungry she will wake up to eat. My daughter would go some long stretches without nursing during the day but at night she always woke up every 2-3hrs. Once my daughter started daycare I realize how little she actually ate. At certain feedings she would totally refuse to take the bottle and at most times she would only eat 1-2 ounces. When you breastfeed you have no concept of how much they eat. When I picked her up from daycare I was lucky to have her eat a total of 6 ounces during the day. I never had to move up to the 8 ounce bottles but I stopped worrying about her because she was healthy. Once she turned 1 they checked her blood and said everything was great and that I didn't even need to give her vitamins because she was getting everything she needed. My daughter has always been the thinnest child in her class, she is in the 5% for weight and still wears 6-9mth clothes even though she is 17 mths. I use to worry but now I let her be. I don't believe in force feedign a child and I know when she is hungry she will eat and she does. As long as your daughter is growing and the doctor says she is healthy, don't worry about it, just enjoy her and those naps.

it should be comepletely fine, but if you are still concerned maybe try to offer her an extra 2 oz. after the missed feeding to try and make it up.remember at that age their tummy is often their alarm clock.if they are hungry then they'll wake up.let he sleep if she wants to sleep.feel blessed to have a good sleeper.my daughter is 11 months and occasionally will take like a 4 hour nap!!it's wonderful!lol they will let you know when they are hungry.hth.

Congrats on your new baby!
I am jealous that yours takes 2 naps, I am lucky if my 6 month old takes one! As long as your baby is happy, not fussy, sleeps well and eating well she is great! She is getting a little bigger now, and if she isn't hungry, she is not hungry. Enjoy your new life! It goes way too quick! M.

They will make up for the missed feeding at another feeding. Just relax and enjoy your sweet baby girl---babies are resilient.
