ok i have been in a jeans-panic for awhile, because my favorite place to buy them has gone out of business :(

so i found out that our Lane Bryant outlet has jeans on sale all the time for $30 - WOO HOO! and they have the fit i like and my size. awesome.

however, when i went a couple weeks ago, in dire need of jeans, all they had (in my size and cut) were that faded black color. they "look" like blue jeans, they're definitely not "black pants" - but they're black toned, just faded.

so i bought them (it is sooo nice to have jeans that i love the fit and the "look"!) BUT now i'm stuck because everything i try to wear with them, i hate. i wanted BLUE jeans (the lady said they get new shipments every week and they are constantly having the $30 sales, so i will go back). all my "normal" clothes just don't go.

the other day i tried just a plain black blouse, that looks awesome with faded blue jeans. nope.

today, a red cami with a black shrug. nope.

what does one wear with "faded black" jeans?? really hoping this wasn't a waste of my money.

What can I do next?

I know what you mean. the "faded" look is still "in" and I don't like it either. but like you - to find a pair of pants that FITS????? YAHOO!!!

So I would go with brighter colors or other "muted" tones such as ecru (off white) or gray....you aren't used to the "color" right now so you won't like much of what you put with it.

Also - tops with MULTI-colors help - they REALLY do!! If you livd closer, I would take you to my girlfriend's consignment shop and she would help you out!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

I would go with "heather" tones such as heather grey, look for more muted colors, lilac vs purple OR eggshell vs white. I am assuming you lost your Torrid store too? I ordered my favs online at torrid.com in case that was your store too. Lane does not offer the same length on the talls as Torrid so I am remaining loyal to the website! Hopefully they remain in business.

Ask them at the store to show you some tops to go with the jeans.

I don't own any black jeans so I'm not sure what to tell you, I'm sure there are certain colors that match better than others. Do you still have the receipt? I would return them and wait to get what you really want. Even if you lost the receipt, they'll probably take them back for a store credit.

yeah i'm not in love with the faded black look either. i agree with those who suggest to go dramatic, or to accessorize a lot. that plain black blouse might work with the jeans if you have a vivid amethyst and aqua silk scarf. if you throw on a long rope of faux black pearls with gold beads, that red cami/shrug combo might just pop.
hope your blue jeans get in the store quickly! a perfectly-fitting pair of jeans is a treasure forever.

One trick that I use when I can't figure out how to wear a certain color is to isolate it and accessorize. Until you get comfortable with the color, wear it with a black top (off the shoulder sweater?) and hot black shoes (boots?) and maybe a big black bangle bracelet. Or any color top with matching shoes, with a little sheen or sparkle to the shoes and earrings.

I think that once you get comfortable with that color, it'll be easier to incorporate the jeans into your wardrobe. You already had in your mind how you wanted to wear the jeans, so when you were forced to get a different color, that threw things off, and your mind hasn't recovered.

ETA: I'm a jeans and T-shirt girl, and there is nothing like a good white T-shirt, or a crisp white oxford-style shirt. Wear that with a funky pair of shoes.

Red, aqua, cream, really any color at all but solid black. I do wear a black vest with a long sleeve colored t-shirt under it with my faded black jeans.

Can you post a link in your SWH so we can see what they look like? I'll bet they're on the Lane Bryant site...and I bet you could even order the ones you like from there...

Theoretically, black is a neutral.
It "should" match just about any color.
(But I sure wear my black jeans a LOT less than my blue ones.)
Printed cardigan over a shell?
Hoodie?
Printed, multi-color tee?

I think they sound cute! My favorite jeans are the mossimo premiums from target, up to size 18 or 20 I believe and fit amazingly!

what size are these jeans? what is your body type? if the jeans fit you ok, maybe you wearing wrong tops? don't forget to wash your jeans inside out. black jeans go with more things than blue jeans. the balance with jeans matching is with your shoes. the fit is also very important, if they are too tight or too loose dont buy them. pm me ifyou have any additional questions, i would like to help. ps. im a stylist.

Try a simple white tee and to style it up a little, do you have a blazer? then throw on a cute necklace or bracelet.. I have some faded jeans and with it, I wear either navy scoop neck tee and my charcoal grey blazer, a slight wedge shoe and some kind of earring , necklace or bracelet..

I think it depends on how causal or not you want to be. I have also worn a tee that has a musician on it.. or even one that has a sports team.. again, throw on a cute blazer.. in my case, one of the jackets I wear is more like a suit. but it's not as stuffy looking.. OR I sometimes wear this cotton light weight jacket that has a collar and buttons down the front.. it's cute too.. and good for an evening out..
In any case, if i wear a jacket over anything, I need a more fitted shirt underneath. otherwise, the outfit looks too boxy..
Also, a cute vintage short jacket often goes with bluejeans and again, a simple tee.. they have ones at Old Navy that you can layer , I like for example how the white and navy look when you put the white underneath and it peeks out a little at the top over the navy..
with a pair of flats... it's really cute.. Also, old navy has little light weight coats to over outfits..

good luck
