We want to plan a 4 day weekend to St. Louis. We live near Joliet, IL so it'll take us a good 5 hours or so to arrive. Once we get there... where do we go? Where is the best place/hotel to stay (ex. indoor poor, walking distance to some attractions)? What attractions should we hit (our kids will be 6 when we go, boy & girl)? Any other tips/tricks???

What can I do next?

I used to live there. You have to take the kids to the City Museum!

Don't let the name fool you, it is no run-of-the-mill musuem.

I can't explain it, you should check out the website. It is hard to describe - just plain awesome! Its like a big playground and fun for all ages. There are different activities on different floors. Its a cross between an art gallery and a playground all in one. I haven't been in about 10 years but I have heard it has only gotten better.

I think Amanda gave you a great website. I'll be checking that out, as well. I don't know much about hotels in the area, but I wanted to say that I'm not sure you'll find a whole lot withing walking distance. There are things to do downtown (The Arch, The City Museum, Busch Stadium (Cardinals), but to do some of the really great kids things you'll need to drive.

My favorites are:
The Magic House
Grant's Farm
The Zoo
The Science Center

Your kids may be old enough for the Muny (the outdoor amphitheater). I'm not sure where it's located, but their website is http://www.muny.org/.

Have fun!!! I love St. Louis.

I lived there for four years so I can't tell you where to stay.

But what to do, there's lots.

The Zoo
The botanical gardens
Catch a Card's game!
The Science Center
The Magic House
The Arch

The Zoo and the Science Center are both free, and kids love it!

On the left under St. Louis Kid's there is a ton of different options for all the different interest of your kids. There is so much to do that we haven't had time to do it all.

It is a little more of a drive but, we also have Six Flags. :)
I would definitly do the zoo, we have one of the best in the country and it is FREE. Also in the same area as the zoo is Forest Park. You can rent paddle boats and have a picnic. It is a nice park. The Science Center is in the same area as well.
It might be cheaper staying on the outskirts of St. Louis like maybe the Chesterfield area. Not sure. Most of the "attractions" in St. Louis you would have to drive to because they are kind of spread out. If you are in town during a Cards game, you should go. We have the BEST team and BEST fans around.
Enjoy your vacation!!!!
