Is there such a thing and where can I get one. I need one that allows you to write letters, words, etc for teaching purposes and then erase it - kind of like the etch-a-sketch but with a pen, and not like the games/books that gets complicated. Thanks mom.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The boogy board looks like what I need. I will check them out both. I don't want the noise and game per se in the vtech, but if it writes, I will take a look at that too. PS. This is for a 5yr old.

My daughter also got the item Gina P. mentioned. My 3-1/2 year old LOVES it and her letters are improving! Also, she has the Parents Magazine version of Magna Doodle - can't find it online, but it wipes off and has a pen, as well as 4 magnets to "stamp". She keeps them both in the car.

It sounds like you are describing a Magna Doodle, lol.
Does it have to be electronic?

You could also consider the LeapFrog Scribble and Write:

Our 4-year-old daughter got this for Christmas and likes it a lot. She traces over the blinking red lights to write her letters. It does only let you write one letter at a time, though.

My sister has an old fashioned PDA (like a smart phone without the phone) and it has a jotter option where she can hand write with a stylus and hit save and it converts it to typed text. If this is what you want then I would go to a Best Buy and talk to a sales person.

Wow, no I do NOT know of such a gadget but it sounds like a fantastic idea! Imagine writers not having to carry around index cards, notebooks, or voice recorders for when an idea comes to them! Just whip the little thing out of your purse, jot down your idea with a stylis, hit the save button and put it back away! Without having to deal with all the OTHER things ipads, phones and other such things do! Genious!

Hard to believe it doesn't already exist, everything ELSE does!

:)

Do you need it to be electronic? We have the leapster explorer but it sounds like you don't want something like that - we also have a crayola dry erase activity center. My son and daughter love playing with this. They just write on then wipe off.
