Double Stroller for Preschool Age Children

Hi there. I have a child who is turning 4 next week and an almost 3 year old. Both weigh a lot for their age (about 35-36 lbs each). I have had a Graco double stroller, a Jeep side-by-side umbrella stroller, and I cannot push them. The strollers don't turn well and get stuck constantly. I think this is due to my kids' weight. When it is just one kid in either of these strollers, the strollers work fine. I really do still need a double stroller, as it is too hard to keep an eye on both of them in larger public places. Plus, they will get tired if they have to walk a lot (like a good mall outing!)

I really need some help finding a good double stroller option for my kids. I have considered stand n ride strollers, and I love those strollers that look like jogging strollers, but I am unsure in terms of weight limits. If anyone has a good recommendation, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The reason they're not walking is that sometimes it's scary to have two kids in a large setting, trying to hold my bag, and to accomplish whatever business needs taking care of. The other day when I was paying at a small store, my older son almost ran out of the store. We also travel a lot, like to theme parks, and a whole day of a theme park is exhausting for an adult, let alone a child. Thanks for anyone who does have an answer about a stroller. I'm all for exercise, but that's not my reason for a stroller (to let my kids be "lazy.)

teach them to walk longer distances - if you gradually increase the amount they walk they can certainly do a few miles easily.

My kids didn't use a stroller after they could walk confidently. By 22 mos both my girls were walking at all times. By the time they were 3 they could walk the mile to the park and back without even getting tired.

I taught the kids to hold my jacket or to behave me and stay by me. I also taught them what would happen if they didn't obey.

Wow people! She asked for a double stroller reco, not for your parenting opinions! And Nora P? Im glad Im not your kid! Carry YOUR jacket?? and I dont even want to know how they learned "what would happen if they didnt obey!"

D.- We have the Bumbleride Indie Twin and we love it!! It is a little on the pricey side, but it is worth it to us. I think it is supposed to hold up to 50lbs on each side. And it stears and pushes like a dream. It is considered a jogger but I dont use it for that really. What I especially loved is that it fits thru standard doorways so bringing it to the mall and getting thru all the doors is a breeze. My friend has the Bob Duallie. Again a little pricey, but a new model came out this year and so now all the last year models are discounted a lot. Everyone I know who has the Bob says its awesome. It also fits thru doors a little tighter but it does. It has less accessories, which is why I didnt go with it and it is a true jogger so you should look at both and compare options. Both of these I put both of my kids in and could push with and turn with one hand.

Good luck! Stroller shopping is exhausting!!

When at a theme park, zoo or walk to the park I bring the wagon. That seems the best for hauling everything needed like a cooler, backpack and then a kid or two if they are tired out.

I had to start doing mall outings with hubby, friends and my mom just to have the extra set of eyes and hands. Maybe plan any outings that are in a crowded area with another adult in tow. Or make clear that the rule is stay by me or we do not get to go out to the mall or store with mommy any more, that helped me because my daughter loves going shopping with me and she knows the rule stick by me or you stick at home when shopping needs to be done.

Just have to add your kids weight is average for that age, not a lot. My daughter is 4 and almost weighs 40. She is tall for her age, average weight, and looks like a bean pole. Storllers are just not made for kids over the age of 3, but wagons are great :)

They are really to big for a double stroller. What about a wagon?? We have a step two wagon with two seats, cup holders and storage under one of the seats. That would better for you than a stroller.

We love our BOB Duallie. It was my big splurge after our second was born and it is amazing. Very easy to maneuver and can hold larger children. Good luck!

we have a baby jogger i adore, folds small enough to fi ton the back of a tiny scion car. But pricey, you can probably track one down on craigslist.com.

You should check out Yahoo stroller groups-
StrollerSwap and StrollersandBeyond-both should be able to help you with ANYTHING stroller related.

We have a side by side Peg Perego. I really like it, except for one thing, the kids can easily hit each other in it. I am not sure if that is the same situation with a front and back. We were recently at Disney and I was eyeing everyone's stroller, and I thought the BOB stroller looked awesome, there is a larger divider between the kids and I think that may make it less likely for them to touch each other. I have heard they push like a dream too. I do like our stroller and am happy I have it, I was comfortable with its price point. The Bob is more expensive, but depending on how often you are using it, it may be worth it. One con though, I am not sure if the tires need to be inflated, which may be stinky if you are out and they become flat, but I am not sure if that happens too frequently, just a thought. Good luck :) Ps, we went to a stroller store with the kids, and I thought I had my heart set on the City Mini, but it was not tall enough for my son, so bring your kids with when you are looking, try it out, see how it feels for you. :)

Our oldest son is almost 4 and I'm constantly stroller shopping for him because we live in the city, and it gets to be too much walking for him when we're downtown, etc. We have a sit 'n stand, which I don't recommend because it just doesn't steer as well even though the large basket and double cup holders are nice. With the weight of your kids, it would be extremely difficult to maneuver. We also have the Baby Jogger City Mini, which I love! I'm not a jogger at all and bought it because it's relatively light (~20#) for a double stroller, folds up pretty compactly, fits through any single door that meets ADA requirements, both seats recline almost flat and it has great canopies. It's expensive, though, and you have to buy all of the accessories (cup holder, rain shield), and it isn't easy to get to the basket. It can be steered pretty easily with one hand, though. Now that my older son is getting bigger, though, I am noticing that it seems narrow, particularly when he's wearing his winter coat...and he's a pretty lean kid. If your kids don't nap, I think a wagon is a good outdoor option, but not very good for getting around in stores or in and out of elevators.

PS -We ordered our double stroller on amazon and didn't have to pay sales tax or shipping.

We have a baby jogger my oldest is 4 1/2 and 44 inches and 53 pounds my youngest is 16 months it is the best. they are safe contained and I can go anywhere it is the largest double on the market- in terms of seat capacity. we have used it at disney world and I just used it to travel alone with them . I could not have done it without this stroller lookat buying a new older model like a 2009 or 2010 model it will save you 2-300 dollars. there are times when you just need a double and it is fantastic. Sure they can walk but there are times when they just need to ride and from my perspective I know where they are and that they are safe. I can send you more info on our stroller if you want. Good Luck you have to do what works for your family
