Double Stroller Debate?

Hi moms,
I was hoping some of you could give me input on what type of stroller I probably need. I have a 24 month old little boy & we will be having a baby girl in June. That will put them at 27 1/2 months apart. What kind of stroller would be best? I keep looking at the sit & stand style (there is one at babies r us & one in the one step ahead catalog that I like) and the basic double (Graco or Combi where one kid is in front of the other).
Any recommendatiosn or advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm feeling a little clueless!
Thanks so much,
Kristin

So What Happened?

Ended up with teh Graco Quatro double stroller-love it but I've found I didn't need it. Carried baby in a sling or baby bjorn for months & by the time she wanted to be in the stroller (maybe 10 months), my older one was 3 and would walk or wanted to ride his trike or we'd be in the store & he could just sit in hte big part of the shopping cart. So my kids are 27 months & if I did it again, I'd skip the expensive stroller!

Mine were 3.4 mo. apart, and I debated the whole double stroller issue & opted not to get one b/c my then 3 year old would never sit her tush down long enough to make it worth the added expense & hassle. So, in the end, only 1 kiddo ever used the stroller at a time anyway. Just something to consider.

I have had every kind of double stroller there is. We had the Graco tandem. I didn't like that one at all. It's very heavy & bulky. Try getting the kids & that bulky thing in the car to go to the mall. Also, it's very hard to turn around corners. So, then I got a Macleron side-by-side. I loved that stroller. It was light & folded up relatively small. But, my kids would not leave each other alone. We couln't go anywhere like that. I decided to go with a lighter weight tandem & got an Eddie Bauer. It was a piece of junk. Yes, it was light weight, but fell apart. We had to put it back together the whole time we were at Six Flags last year. Plus, my kids had gotten old enough to want to get in & out by themselves & it was just rickety. And whoever was in the back always pulled the other ones hair or kicked the chair. I now have a Joovey sit & stand. So far, I love it. It's very sturdy & will last my 5 & 3 year old for quite a while still. I like the one that sits or stands faces the opposite way. I chose the Joovey after testing all the ones they had because it turned the corners best. Also, I'm really short & my dh is really tall & the handle makes it easy for both of us to use. They didn't have a parent organizer on it, but you can order one from their website. I have an Expedition & there's not much space for a stroller but it fits. It folds kind of flat. Hope this helps a little.

I have a three week old and a 2 month old. We own the sit and stand stroller and my three year old loves the independence it gives him. However, until the baby is out of the car seat carrier, your older child won't be able to sit. He/ she will be able to stand. Unfortunately, the car seat takes up a lot more room. But once the baby can sit in the front seat, there will be plenty of room for the older child to sit or stand.
Also, there is not a lot of room in the basket underneath for packages/ diaper bags. However, I do find it a lot easier to handle and drive than the standard double strollers. Hope this helps.

If you want a sit and stand the one at Target is cheaper and bigger than Babies r us. I have a graco double for my 6 month old and 3 year old. I have been a fan of a double stroller yes it is heavier, but I like how each seat has a sun shade. The sit and stand I've seen do not have sun shades for each seat. Also if I am out and about for a long amount of time double strollers have trays for snacks and drinks. Hope that helps

The ONLY thing I don't like about my Graco Duo Glide is that it won't fit in the trunk of my Chrysler Sebring. In fact, the only place it will fit is in the front seat. So, we can only use it if either my husband or I are going places alone with the boys (2 years and 3 months). However, I love the smoothness of it and how easy it is to turn. The canopies are an added touch as well. I looked at the Joovy Sit and Stand for a long time, but I wasn't comfortable with how lose my Graco carrier was in it.

My oldest kids are 20 months apart in age. We have a traditional double stroller that was a hand-be-down from my sister. It has worked fairly well for the last 2 years. I could put the carrier in the back part and my son could ride in the front. Now my daughter rides in the front and my son in the back (mainly because she pulls his hair if she is in the back). The only advantage to the sit and stand that I can think of is they are generally smaller and the kids are not in close contact. We are now expecting our third and will probably make the oldest walk now (he will be 4 by the time the baby comes in July).

Hope this helps.

Just wanted to add my applause for the Joovy sit-n-stand!!! I too had the graco duo glide, and there is NOOOO comparison. The joovy is so much easier to use I only wish it had parent cup holders, and that the basket was more accessible, but not enough of a frustration to do another stroller. I am due with another one, and mine will only be 15 months apart, which makes me sad because I wont be able to use the Joovy at first, but hopefully within a few months, we can return. Take care and enjoy your little one! ~A.~

I just say you are lucky you can get the sit-n-stand. Mine are only going to be 14-months apart!! I really love my Baby Trend snap-n-go stroller. They also make a sit-n-stand. You can get it at Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?dest=9999999997...

Good luck with your two!

I have the double stroller from the One Step Ahead catalog. I really like it. My oldest (21 mo) can sit in the back right now and the baby carrier goes in the front. It faces the toddler so they can see the baby. The stroller is heavy and a little hard to get in and out of a trunk but its worth it. I think now that my baby is 6 months and can probably sit in it we'll get tons more use out of it. Then as my daughter gets older than 2 she can do the stand thing. If you do order the One Step Ahead check onlien for coupons...they run 15% off alot or free shipping.
