I have 4 kiddos and rarely toted a large diaper bag with me I have a big enough purse to hold a diaper and a pack of wipes.Thats not all a baby needs but they don't need everything that diaper bags carry mine is always packed in my car ready to go but toting it around to the store is a no for me.I see so many moms who have one that is fully loaded they look miserable if I could just lighten their load I would.
I do understnad that moms need more than the diaper and wipes for their child for one reason or another.

What can I do next?

I did when my twins were babies. I was petrified to be caught without something one of them needed. Now, with my singleton, I always have the diaper bag, but I usually leave it in the car. I don't even think it has a change of clothes. I know we almost ran out of wipes once. That NEVER would've happened with my twins!

I kept the bag in the car, But I had some diapers and the travel wipes in my purse. If we were at a festival or not close to the car, I used a stroller and had a bag for the stroller, always with supplies.

Maybe those people with the diaper bags are on foot, riding the bus.. etc.. and have no choice.

I carried a real diaper bag for the first year for each of my kiddos....when I was cloth diapering. Those things are big, and you don't throw them out as you go. My second was a spitter, so I always had to carry extra clothes.

Once we could pear down, I went with an oversized purse. I love my 31 "purse" that I use. Plenty big, especially now that we are potty training and having to carry extra clothes again.

I'm with you, I had a car diaper bag/kit that I kept stocked with clothes diapers, wipes, porta potty, ointment, swim diaper.... I kept one or two diapers in my purse in a zippy bag (for disposal afterwards) and a travel sized wipes. I also could fit two sippy cups and snacks in my purse. That's all I needed for day to day errands and such. Long days out like the zoo or Disney do require much more!

It depends on how close my car will be or how long we'll be there. Going to the zoo ro somewhere where I have a long walk to/from my car, I pack my wallet, etc., in the diaper bag. Going to the store, I leave the bag in the car. It ALWAYS leaves the house with baby (now toddler)--except for walks--because there are a few items that we like to keep handy--Epi pen and allergy medicine, bottled water. I could load these things into my purse, but the other stuff comes in handy, too. Because the bag stays packed, it's easier to just grab it than to go through it an figure out what to pull from it...and then go back later to make sure that I've restored the bag to its regular inventory status.

Depends on where we are going and how long we're going to be out and how far away from the car we will be all day. There is always a large diaper bag with everything for the end of the world but I've been able to streamline that to be as minimal as I could in the car. It comes with us if we're going to be all day like at the Zoo or Disneyland or other day out. Otherwise it stays in the car. I carry in my purse a small diaper changing kit that carries 3 diapers, 3 plastic trash baggies and it has a folding changing mat. I have a travel box of wipes. I have a small makeup bag that has a tube of diaper cream, hand sanitizer spray, lotion and a couple other things we use when we out running errands or for shorter times. I never needed to bring bottles, formula etc because my kids all were breastfed. Loved that part of going out when they were babies!
I've seen those people that carry a suitcase with them just to go to the store and I can't believe how they can manage.

I carried what kind of looked like a "designer" diaper bag. It was black and was very stylish looking, but inside, was designed like a diaper bag. It held everything I needed. I carried a smaller purse.

I tried making that bag also be my purse, but it "smelled" like a diaper bag. I didn't like my pocketbook stuff smelling like a diaper bag.

Diapers have a certain smell about them - I think that's what I didn't like.

So I carried two, a diaper bag and a smaller purse, but the diaper bag was good looking - my compromise.

No. I did with my first born but that certainly did get old. With my second I always left it in the car unless I was at the zoo or something (when I could put it in a stroller), becuase I always figured I could just go out to the car to get a diaper.

I did the same as you, stuffed a couple of diapers and some wipes in my purse and I was good to go.

I think lots of moms are pretty concerned about germs, so they need a bag to carry all that germ prevention stuff with them.

And if you don't nurse, you have to carry bottles and food.

I used a diaper bag but it was a messenger style and used it as a purse. I ditched that thing as soon as I could though. I nursed but didn't do it in public after age 1. I usually was not out all day anyway put kept diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes in the car. Heck, my son is 4 and I still keep a change of clothes in the car!

My friend got a Coach diaper bag and I was OMG, what a serious waste of money.

I ercently made the switch. I now carry a tiny (toddler sized backpack, on my back (skip hop-owl). I am 5'1" and 125lbs, so I can manage a kiddie sized backpack. I throw 3 diapers, a slim wipes case, a sippy cup, an extra onsie, a squeezie pouch, my wallet, cell phone and keys in there. DS, 20 months, wears his plush monkey harness/ leash, and we are out the door. We don't do cars and we don't do strollers. A purse/ diaper bad was more a hindrance than a help because it had me lopsided while trying to man a very busy, and might I say quick, toddler.

Glad to be traveling light once more.

good luck to you and yours,
F. B.

My kids are almost 3 and almost 5 and I haven't carried a diaper bag for about a year now...and thank goodness for it! ;) Like you I just make sure I have enough room in my purse to carry a few diapers, wipes, and a few small but essential toys for my little one.

But up until then I found it actually easier to just carry the diaper bag. I wanted ready access to those toys, diapers, snacks and drinks (especially in the bottle days). Plus I had room for mini medicine cabinet and a change of clothes. I just put my wallet in there so I didn't have to carry two bags. I don't understand the moms who carry about a diaper bag AND a purse, that would stress me out!

I am very glad to be done with those days though. I prefer just having my purse!

I carried a diaper bag for like, 1 week.

I don't carry a purse either...

I got one of those diaper kit things as a gift while I was prego, it had enough room to fit 3-5 diapers, wipes, a change of clothes, and a couple other small, miscellaneous items. That's all I ever needed. Anything else could stay in the car, or would fit in the stroller. :)

I stopped carrying a diaper bag for my son once he turned a year old. I just carried a big purse. Now that I have a five month old I carry a diaper bag again so that her bottles stay fresh. (Even a drive to the grocery store is an hour round trip so combinded with the time we spend at the store she is going to have to eat sometime.) Between her and my son I bring. Two-Three bottles, one diaper for my son (just in case) wipes, three diapers for my daughter, and an extra outfit for each (my son is potty training so we bring an extra in case of an accident, and my daughter is a drooler lol)
