Do You Own a Gun? Just My Curiosity Again.

When I got change at the gas station today I got a bill that was stamped with "ARMED CITIZENS ARE FREE CITIZENS." So this has prompted me to ask, do you personally (not your significant other) own a gun? If so, for what purpose...protection, hunting, fear of the government, etc. I have a shotgun that I inherited from my grandfather. I got turned off of purchasing a handgun when my cousin (who has a concealed weapon permit and has carried a gun her entire adult life) was recently shot in the face whilst sitting at her desk in her office in Philly.

Lest this get out of hand...this isn't intended to be a debate about gun control.

What can I do next?

We have several.
My husband is an NRA certified instructor and he teaches basic pistol safety classes every month.
We target shoot at the range. We don't hunt.
I'm less into it than my husband, but my son's a pretty good shot.
He's been shooting since he was 6 and guns hold no fascination for him now.
We keep weapons and ammo in separate combination gun safes.

I do own a handgun that I keep for home protection. I take it to the range every month or so for some practice to stay comfortable with it. Otherwise it lives in a locked gunsafe in my house.

I do not. I want one for protection, but I also have children who are notorious for getting into all sorts of unexpected mischief. Anything secure enough to deter them would be worthless to me for my intended use.

I do own a small .38 special. I own it solely for the purpose of in home safety. I do not carry it unless I'm going to the shooting range for practice. My hubby is very passionate that I own one myself and know how to use one. His family home as a child was broken into and the burglar actually held his head down and threatened him. So, my hubby has good reasons to own guns. My hubby travels for his job so when I'm home alone w/the kids, I do have protection should I need it. It is however stored properly so my kids won't be harmed accidentally.

Well the gun is both of ours, It was my dads 44 magnum all my life growing up, upon him dying i got this and his other guns were given to my oldest brother. I have learned how to shoot it properly for my defense, but i still consider it my husbands Gun as well. I too have had family members who were shot, My husbands mother was in fact shot by her husband, killing her instantly. We still have a gun. All the wrong people have guns and will always have guns, All the right people should have them too so that force can be met with equal force, to protect ones family

I own all the guns in our house...not my SO.
I inherited them from my dad...who owned hundreds of collectibles. Some are meant for safety, some are meant for show.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yes, I own a 9mm Walther. I don't hunt, but I really enjoy shooting it on the range. So for me it is a sport thing. Hubby and I plan on getting our concealed carry permits. I doubt I will carry it all the time, since a gun makes your purse so much heavier! Hubby has several handguns, several shotguns and rifles. All are in either our gun safe or in our hidden panel in our wardrobe (children are unaware of it, but can be gotten to by us in an emergency).

No. I've never felt a need or a desire to own a gun. Hunting does not appeal to me, I found skeet shooting just ok. I don't feel unsafe where I live. Plus I read somewhere that a large percentage of people who have guns in their home for protection and experience a home invasion end up getting shot by their own weapon. (the intruder get to it first or wrestles it out of the homeowner's hands)

We have a couple of hunting guns and recently(finally) got a handgun. I was raised in a house with guns as was several generations of my family. I grew up in the south in small hick town that EVERYONE had guns in their house. So it has always been an accepted thing for us. I
Anyway we have it for protection but to be honest it is a secondary protection. We have two large dogs and one medium dog that are extremely protective of our house and family.

I have one, a 40 caliber and my husband has a 44 and a 38. My husband has a concealed carry and I will be getting mine after the baby is born. my husband bought mine for me for my birthday several years ago and I just learned to shoot it last summer. We have ours for personal protection and he carries his on him all of the time. He is an ex cop and has seen all of the dangerous things that happen to people out there...even in great neighborhoods. Oh, and your own gun won't be used on you if you know how to properly handle it.

My husband has a bb gun that he used to use to shoot large rodents that got into the garbage at our old place. I see no need for anything bigger.
My dad taught me how to shoot and has several guns. He has offered to give us one, but I know myself well enough to know that I am not a good candidate for gun ownership. You can have everything in my house and I will even load it into the car for you if it will make you go away.
My parents came home a few years ago and interrupted their house being robbed. My dad's guns were piled up on the living room floor, and would have been gone with the thieves had they not come home when they did.

No,we don't, but my husband had a handgun when I met him for target shooting. I am not willing to live with a handgun, or more particularly raise children with a gun in the house which is why he got rid of it. But I have gone skeet shooting a couple of times. When our girls are old enough, I want them to learn to shoot and take safety lessons, not necessarily to be gun owners, but to understand the power of a gun.

My mother-in-law lives with her boyfriend and he collects older guns and hunts a little, but I don't think he has a working gun in the house.

I always ask before leaving my child at someone's house and I have found about 3 out of 15 friends have a gun in the house.

The only gun I have right now is a BB gun. I do plan on purchasing a hand gun once I have the money saved up. Everyone in my family owns guns and it is a tradition to shoot them at family get together's.

No, I don't own a gun. I've wanted to for many years, especially when I was living alone. But I was always scared by two things: 1. I didn't want it used against me, 2. I didn't think I could really use it against someone if it came down to it. Perhaps I could, but I'd probably falter and then have it taken from me, in which case it would be used against me. Now that we have a child, there is NO way I'd have a gun in the same house. Households with guns are much more likely to have a teen die by suicide, because guns make it so easy. And then there's the possibility of accidental shootings. No thanks!

No, I've never had a gun. I've never really been around guns much, so I am not comfortable with them. I don't think I'm really against having them for protection, I just have no experience.

My husband is in the Army National Guard, so of course he knows guns & has plenty of practice. He does want to get a gun (w/ license, permits, etc) when we have the money for it. He will probably teach me how to shoot it as well, just in case I ever need to.

I don't personally own a gun. Hubby does, and I'm glad because we have a unending skunk battle at our house.

I am a crack shot with a Nerf gun! :)
