Sooo.. The lovely dishwasher is having a problem and I just want to see if any of you moms have had this issue and have a smart resolution for this. The thing will spit out water (I dont know where from) but it will not spin and the arms are not wet like they should be. Is it clogged? If so how do I fix that? a snake wont fit.
Try to viniger it?

Did it die on me? If it died what kind of price am I looking at for a new?
What is the best brand??

After thought - it does drain the mysterious water that comes out!

What can I do next?

call an appliance repair store. they can give you a rough estimate.

ours pooped out a couple months ago. it was the pump or the control panel and it's 15 years old. appliance repair said don't bother - they wouldn't come out because they'd just be taking our money.

for a variety of reasons we decided to wait until after christmas to replace. well, not sure we're going to now. it was a big surprise but doing dishes by hand hasn't really bothered us nor has it taken that much more time. it's been good together time for talking whether it's my husband and me, the two kids or a kid and parent. it's been good for the kids too to do the dishes and learn how.

anyway - $400 to $2000 for new dependent on what you want.

Our 16 1/2 yr old dishwasher croaked the week before Christmas (as did my kitchen faucet - even older and my husband's car's brakes!!). It was leaking water - just a little at first as as the days went by more and more. Ends up all the fittings were just corroding and it was basically at the end of it's lifespan. It wasn't worth fixing as each fitting began to leak it would need to be fixed at $100 a pop. We bought a good quality dishwasher that was a display model that was no longer being made. It cost $500 (original price was $875). BUT - there were many that were lower cost. We had looked through the "scratch & dent" back of the store and there were some that had large scratches/dents (you could probably order new front panels from the manufacturer) and there were other dishwashers that were faulty at installation and were brought back & fixed and were now being sold as used. Some of those could be had for $250-ish.

We got a Maytag - it had a good review. I really like it - which is good since it's my huband's and my Christmas present to eachother. ;o) Now we're praying our refigerator through another year or two. It's 15 years old and just not working as well as it once did...

I have an independent (not connected to any store or company) appliance repairman whom I respect highly. He can fix anything fixable, and he will say when an appliance isn't worth repairing. When he says it's time for a new one, I ask him for recommendations. He's rather a negative talker, so I'll hear first of all what's wrong with every brand and every company, but at the end he'll recommend something, and often a place to buy it.

If you can find somebody like that in your area, you'll find the answers to your questions. I haven't had a dishwasher for years (except my two hands), but your description of yours makes me think it's on the road to retirement.

Look for an applinace repair service who will take the cost of the service call off the price of a new one if it is not repairable. It might be an easy repair, it may need to be replaced but call a repairman.
